Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM), formerly known as vulvovaginal atrophy, is a condition characterized by a decrease in estrogen levels leading to a range of symptoms in the vulvovaginal and lower urinary tract. These symptoms can significantly impact a woman's quality of life, affecting sexual function and overall well-being.
Symptoms and Causes: Estrogen Decline: The primary cause of GSM is the drop in estrogen levels that occurs during menopause. Vulvovaginal Changes: This can include vaginal dryness, thinning of the vaginal walls, and decreased elasticity, leading to pain during intercourse (dyspareunia). Urinary Symptoms: Urinary urgency, frequency, dysuria (painful urination), and recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) can also occur. Other Effects: Reduced vaginal lubrication and sexual desire, and a decreased sense of pleasure during intercourse may also be experienced. Impact and Management: Quality of Life: GSM can significantly impact a woman's sexual health, intimacy with partners, and overall quality of life. Treatment Options: Various treatment options are available to alleviate GSM symptoms, including vaginal moisturizers and lubricants, local estrogen therapy, and non-hormonal medications. Importance of Discussion: Open communication between women and healthcare providers is crucial for accurate diagnosis and effective management of GSM. In summary, GSM is a common condition affecting postmenopausal women due to estrogen decline, causing a range of genitourinary symptoms that can impact their health and well-being. Treatment options are available to manage these symptoms and improve quality of life. |

| Its not a menopause issue. I get this way. No STDs. I have sensitive skin. Any moisture, urine, discharge makes me VERY itchy. I shower right after and always clean up immediately after sex. Can't even wear panty liners for the leaking because it makes the itchiness worse as I'm allergic. |
| In case it doesn’t clear, Evvy was recommended to me for more information. It’s a vaginal biome test kit. I’ve not needed it personally so far. |
Second this I use boric acid suppositories about once a week and always after sex I like the PhD brand (sold at target, cvs, etc.) but others are fine too |
