itching after sex

Anonymous
OP for what it's worth. I had some itching issues as well accompanied by an unpleasant "fishy" odor. I went to the gyn, got it tested and it's BV. So I'm taking a round of antibiotics and my gyn suggested boric acid as well. Worth talking to your doctor about for sure.

It doesn’t have to mean your DH is cheating.

He is harboring bacteria on his penis that causes you to have an infectious reaction and this will happen after every single penetrative encounter until he gets his bacterial infection treated. It’s bacterial vaginosis.

This. Also, with the changing pH and fun tissue changes of perimenopause it’s important you both shower ahead and have him trim his fingernails.

In addition to VH Essentials that I recommended above prophylactically, I highly recommend Estring.

OP here. Thank you.

Can you tell me about the insertion process? Is it painful like iUD? I never did well with menstrual cups, so am nervous about things like this. But I also kept getting yeast infections when I was using transvaginal estradiol w/the applicator -- even when I washed it in hot/soapy water after each use. It was such a nuisance.

Agree! Folks need to be more aware of how easily you can get a lingering infection if not careful. Being explicit about having your partner wash his body abs especially penis (and or toys) and making sure their nails aren’t going to snag you shouldn’t be needed…but it really is. With adults. It’s wild.

You can also do a diluted apple cider vinegar rinse after.

I don’t know about the effectiveness of it being used to clean applicators, but I bet white vinegar soak would be great antibacterial (not internally).
