There have been some efforts among Dem politicians to the reform H-1B visa program: For example, recently Ro Khanna (D-CA) highlighted instances where companies have used the program to replace American workers with lower-paid H-1B employees, calling for reforms to ensure fair wages and job opportunities for U.S. workers (https://www.newsweek.com/democrat-h1b-visa-abuse-2008554). Regarding OPT, it's been around since 1992 and currently allows international students on F-1 student visas to work in the U.S. for up to 12 months post-graduation, with an additional 24-month extension for those in STEM fields. Students are supposed to get jobs in their field of study. Only about a quarter of foreign students actually apply for OPT. And, of those that do, many can't find jobs, so I'm not sure it's the big threat that you think it is. It doesn't automatically translate into a longer-term work visa. There have been prior leaps in tooling, and then we have even more astounding applications that need real innovation to build. It will probably be okay until AGI. and the LLMs are never going to be AGI, it will be something else.

But democrats claim they are the party of labor. But that is not true anymore.

Democrats should be stopping these programs but they are helping republicans expand them .

I was so glad Republicans were in the House under Biden and they had a nominal majority in the Senate. Maybe many of them aren't ant-immigration like Trump, but they kept Democrats from doing what they want which was to screw us over.

It sounds like you're jealous of tech salaries, which are substantially higher than salaries for traditional engineering such as mechanical, electrical, materials, etc. People who want easy engineering degrees go into civil engineering. Everyone knows that.

Remember, the H-1B lottery was going to be changed to allocate visas based on salary. But Biden/Democrats stopped this common sense change. If the H1B is supposed to address skill shortages, then allocating based on market price makes a lot of sense. But not to Democrats.
