Still don’t know what you’re talking about, but it looks like Trump has been helpful on this issue in the past. Maybe he’ll do something about it again. The Democrats can’t stop him since he controls everything. He can just issue an EO, which is how he’s conducting business these days. |
Personally, I'm upset that I have to be aware of this stuff. I didn't go into tech to learn the ins and outs of the immigration system. Biden's executive order to add AI and STEM to Schedule A, no PERM processing. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2023/11/01/2023-24283/safe-secure-and-trustworthy-development-and-use-of-artificial-intelligence (e) Within 45 days of the date of this order, for purposes of considering updates to the “Schedule A” list of occupations, 20 CFR 656.5, the Secretary of Labor shall publish a request for information (RFI) to solicit public input, including from industry and worker-advocate communities, identifying AI and other STEM-related occupations, as well as additional occupations across the economy, for which there is an insufficient number of ready, willing, able, and qualified United States workers. (f) The Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall, consistent with applicable law and implementing regulations, use their discretionary authorities to support and attract foreign nationals with special skills in AI and other critical and emerging technologies seeking to work, study, or conduct research in the United States. |
Sound like your son we t to work for flash in the pan scam company burning through venture capital. |
I mean think of punch cards. I did a control project in assembly and then the next graduating class got to do it in JAVA (didn’t even have to stop at C and deal with pointers and memory management). There have been prior leaps in tooling, and then we have even more astounding applications that need real innovation to build. It will probably be okay until AGI. and the LLMs are never going to be AGI, it will be something else. |
There is so much fear about AI replacing everyone’s job. I think the fear is a bit over hyped. I read a great article on it recently https://www.datafolx.ai/blog/will-ai-reduce-jobs-a-wake-up-call-for-business-leaders |
Can’t you use your brain? Can’t you learn? This is exactly why we need h1bs to do what you apparently can’t. |
We know republicans are evil. No debate But democrats claim they are the party of labor. But that is not true anymore. Democrats should be stopping these programs but they are helping republicans expand them . |
Is that the "royal" you? Why you need h-1bs. I have no need for h-1bs. You need h-1bs because you can't do it, and you are afraid of those of us that can. Anyway, this is what liberals do when they been caught in their web of dishonesty. You see, I just proved that they have been doing everything they can to increase h-1bs. Then they try to insult you. I was so glad Republicans were in the House under Biden and they had a nominal majority in the Senate. Maybe many of them aren't ant-immigration like Trump, but they kept Democrats from doing what they want which was to screw us over. If a Democrat says they want to "reform" immigration to protect American workers, they are straight up lying to your face. How's that for thinking? |
CS is and has been way over subscribed anyways. It started to get that way around 2010. So yes, if you are not capable of actual engineering and you managed to 💩 out a CS degree from an easy school to get into and an easy school to graduate from you are in trouble. Or if you generally have massive personality defects - which is also a major problem for CS related professionals.
LLMs have significant limitations. They also have significant advantages given the right prompting. An LLM absolutely is not general intelligenc. If you are being replaced entirely by large language model, the problem is you |
It sounds like you're jealous of tech salaries, which are substantially higher than salaries for traditional engineering such as mechanical, electrical, materials, etc. People who want easy engineering degrees go into civil engineering. Everyone knows that. |
Obama '08 coincidence? I don't think so. https://revealnews.org/article-legacy/how-obamas-immigration-plan-will-help-skilled-workers-who-hold-visas/ " They increase the number of available visas of various types, allow some spouses of H-1B workers to find jobs in the U.S. and expand a program in which foreign graduates of U.S. universities gain work experience here." |
Remember, the H-1B lottery was going to be changed to allocate visas based on salary. But Biden/Democrats stopped this common sense change. If the H1B is supposed to address skill shortages, then allocating based on market price makes a lot of sense. But not to Democrats. https://www.shrm.org/topics-tools/news/talent-acquisition/uscis-replaces-h-1b-lottery-salary-based-selection |
Why do people blame Democrats for H 1 Bs? The blame should be placed where it rightly belongs on the corporations who bring them in for less pay!! But I know you think corporations are paragons of efficiency and moral righteousness, which is why you are supporting the move to a CEO King instead of President. Corporations DGAF about their employees; they only care about profit. Cheap labor is in their best interest; while paying more for Americans is not. |
Hah in my day CS was all the drop outs from EE and ME. How times have changed. But let’s be honest MBAS tend to make good money and they are not intellectual dynamos. |
People with far more training and access than an average person. |
