Time to shutdown H1B and Student Visas we have plenty of US tech folks
Long overdue And why democrats still support h1b I just don’t understand
For the record, Trump has supported both H1B and automatically giving green cards to foreign students. *support for H1B visas Trump sides with Elon Musk in H-1B visa debate, says he's always been in favor of the program https://www.reuters.com/world/us/elon-musk-vows-war-over-h-1b-visa-program-amid-rift-with-some-trump-supporters-2024-12-28/ *support for automatically giving green cards to foreign students who graduate from US colleges https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-says-foreign-college-graduates-should-automatically-get-green-cards-2024-06-20/?utm_source=chatgpt.com
Yes that is depressing. But why are democrats supporting h1b and OPT ??? The Indian recruiter scams to watch out for. This recruiter has no interest in the hiring of American workers. This is a bait email for data. When they see the Visa status set to none or blank, they know it's an American. They ask for a reference to bombard your references with calls in the hope of filling more positions with Indian nationals. They use your contacts to do it. DO NOT give them a reference, NEVER! https://x.com/walkinverse/status/1913323545637372266?s=46 Mahendra at USM systems in Chantilly. Fraudulent as they come
Not sure why you blame Dems for the H1-B visa and OPT. They came into being during the George HW Bush administrations(s)*. There have been some efforts among Dem politicians to the reform H-1B visa program: For example, recently Ro Khanna (D-CA) highlighted instances where companies have used the program to replace American workers with lower-paid H-1B employees, calling for reforms to ensure fair wages and job opportunities for U.S. workers (https://www.newsweek.com/democrat-h1b-visa-abuse-2008554). And there was a bipartisan bill by Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) H-1B and L-1 Visa Reform Act of 2023 (S.979) which did not advance. If the Trump administration wants to reform it, it has some ability to do so and, the Republican-led congress can also try to pass reforms. Regarding OPT, it's been around since 1992 and currently allows international students on F-1 student visas to work in the U.S. for up to 12 months post-graduation, with an additional 24-month extension for those in STEM fields. Students are supposed to get jobs in their field of study. Only about a quarter of foreign students actually apply for OPT. And, of those that do, many can't find jobs, so I'm not sure it's the big threat that you think it is. It doesn't automatically translate into a longer-term work visa. It's meant to be of short duration. *H-1B visas were first implemented in 1990 as part of the Immigration Act of 1990 and signed into law by Republican president George H. W. Bush. Ditto Optional Practical Training (OPT), which was officially implemented on July 20, 1992, during his administration as well.
Show me a liberal bill that decreases or eliminates these positions. I have only ever seen "reforms" being tied to "increases". Oh, and some extra bureaucratic things for companies to comply with but have no real teeth. Poor form for an honest debate, but maybe you were ignorant of these issues.
You seem really angry. Are you reacting to something you read or heard somewhere? Maybe you want to link to it so the rest of us know what you're referring to? Otherwise it sounds like you're ranting at the sky. And why are you so focused on Democrats? Last time I checked, the GOP controls the presidency, the House, and the Senate. Plus your president had a chance to do something about this the first time he was president. Why didn't he?
Trump has reduced and stopped H-1B's on occasion. His DOJ has prosecuted green card fraud and won against Meta and Facebook. So yeah, I have a right to be angry. Biden tried to add AI to schedule A by executive order bypassing the requirement that they do PERM searches to prove there were no skilled Americans. Angry. I am so glad Trump revoked that. See a pattern here, Trump, Trump, Trump, oh and to some extent Republicans. You can go look at USCIS web cite and see how many LCA Biden's admin rubber stamped for software engineering. So yeah, I have a right to be angry here. Talk about that reform some more. Show me where they decrease the numbers of H-1Bs.
Still don’t know what you’re talking about, but it looks like Trump has been helpful on this issue in the past. Maybe he’ll do something about it again. The Democrats can’t stop him since he controls everything. He can just issue an EO, which is how he’s conducting business these days.
Personally, I'm upset that I have to be aware of this stuff. I didn't go into tech to learn the ins and outs of the immigration system. Biden's executive order to add AI and STEM to Schedule A, no PERM processing. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2023/11/01/2023-24283/safe-secure-and-trustworthy-development-and-use-of-artificial-intelligence (e) Within 45 days of the date of this order, for purposes of considering updates to the “Schedule A” list of occupations, 20 CFR 656.5, the Secretary of Labor shall publish a request for information (RFI) to solicit public input, including from industry and worker-advocate communities, identifying AI and other STEM-related occupations, as well as additional occupations across the economy, for which there is an insufficient number of ready, willing, able, and qualified United States workers. (f) The Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall, consistent with applicable law and implementing regulations, use their discretionary authorities to support and attract foreign nationals with special skills in AI and other critical and emerging technologies seeking to work, study, or conduct research in the United States.
Can’t you use your brain? Can’t you learn? This is exactly why we need h1bs to do what you apparently can’t.
