Harvard-Westlake 2025 College Handbook Released, Reveals Stunning Outcomes

You are missing the fact that family money protects dummies. Case in point: Trump.

"Poor" is a relative term. Most smart people are too "poor" to afford a $70k/year k-12 + $90/year 4 years of college.

Math professors don't make that much but they are smart.

Not smart people can make a lot of money if they know how to smooze. Some sales people aren't smart, but if you are good looking and know how to talk, you can make a lot.

Overall Vanderbilt is 8 accepted out of 83. You would have to consider that the lower GPA accepted students are athletes or otherwise hooked.

Full pay and ED is enough of a hook for Vandy. Isn't Gwyneth Paltrow's kid one of these acceptances?

BCC has at least 6 seniors going to Vandy next year. As far as I know (and I know 4 of the kids families) none have hooks.

way more impressive than bunch of rich kids with connections getting in.

… Do we realize how much it costs to live in-bounds for B-CC high school?

So BCC has kids richer than most privates who accept a variety of incomes and provide FA. Just saying…

Yeah...I guess OP wanted to create a stir because for some reason 50% of the applicants (3 of 6) from the bottom of the class were accepted vs. 7.5% from the top of the class (3 of 40).

Vandy is big on sibling legacies.

It is double the size of HW.

Is this some PR started thread, it tracks with the super long thread titles with intense wording (stunning outcomes). This belongs in the entertainment forum.

I don’t think Harvard Westlake needs to do PR in Washington DC.

WashU and Vandy are the only two schools I know where two unhooked siblings both attended. Kind of makes sense, if you apply RD still, they know you’re likely to attend.

Sure, but most probably can't afford to pay $70/year for k-12, and another 4 years at $90K/year. There's rich, and uber rich. Harvard Westlake has parents who are uber rich.

Sounds like a horrible environment, tbh.

2002 book The Gatekeepers as “a high-powered school for the sons and daughters of many of Hollywood’s royalty.” The reputation hasn’t changed much. In the 2021 book Guilty Admissions, Nicole LaPorte called it “a rocket launcher to 21st century success.”

A 2019 poll in Harvard-Westlake’s student newspaper, The Chronicle, found that of 317 student respondents, 111 reported having thought about suicide and 182 reported experiencing depression.

I don't know that BCC has that many parents who have the types of connection that parents at HW has. I'd rather my kid not be surrounded by that much angst and depression. Being a teen is hard enough. That place sounds like hell for teens.

I bet the income level that allows one to be on FA at HW is pretty high. Whereas at BCC, FARMs rate is about 23%, and that's determined by the federal poverty line.

A family of 4 in MoCo with a HHI of about $52k qualifies for FARMs. How many families with a HHI of $52K do you think are at HW?

Anonymous wrote:The overall numbers of 83 kids applying to Vandy and 8 getting accepted (again…over 3 years) seems what you would expect. Thats a 9.5% acceptance rate.

It’s just odd that 3 of 6 are from the bottom of the class vs only 3 of 40 accepted from the top of the class.

DS attends Vandy now with at least two of these admits. They are both children of celebrities that you have heard of.

It wouldn’t be beyond reason to think that a handful of others were children of producers and the like. Those kids like schools like Vandy and wake and NYU. USC, Colorado, SMU. Even ASU.

Trying to extrapolate anything meaningful from a sample size of *checks notes* 6 students is just dumb.
