the new H-W handbook is rather shocking. There's a 50% admit rate for Vanderbilt applicants with GPAs in the 3.2-3.299 range. There's even decent chances at Stanford and Yale if your GPA is above 3.6.

| Are you talking about the private school n California? I don’t know why that would shock you, given that their admit rate is lower than many colleges. |
| And given who the parent population is, that tracks…. |
Not to disparage…but they are probably athletes. They have nationally ranked baseball and football…and I am sure other teams. |
| Weird Vandy troll thread. |
| DC money pales in comparison to wealth in the city of Angels. |
| So shocking that a school with rich and well connected families has a "stunning" college outcome. /s |
| I don't find it impressive because most of those kids, if not all, had connections and/or wealth. If they did it completely on their own merits, then that would be stunningly impressive. But they didn't, so, no, I don't find it impressive, at all. |
No it’s athletes…83 kids in total applied and 8 were accepted. This is a 3 year cumulative total BTW…not for one year. |
| No, not stunning. |
The list excludes athletes, legacies, and URMs. |

Here you go. It’s an analysis of Harvard Westlake’s matriculation data from a year or two ago. The podcast host breaks down the numbers. |
Nope, it says at the top of the chart that it excludes legacy and recruited athletes. |
|
The overall numbers of 83 kids applying to Vandy and 8 getting accepted (again…over 3 years) seems what you would expect. Thats a 9.5% acceptance rate.
It’s just odd that 3 of 6 are from the bottom of the class vs only 3 of 40 accepted from the top of the class. |
