How much does a full service move cost?

Time of year matters. Something like April - September is more expensive than October - March. And June - August the most expensive. We pushed our move to October to get the less expensive rate.

My parents moved to a different country every 4-5 years, and our boxed move was paid for by my father's work, but not the actual putting into boxes, or getting stuff out of the boxes. My mother was disabled but still able to help. We all pitched in.

As an adult, I moved my family within Maryland and we did everything ourselves (with a toddler and preschooler in tow!). I do NOT recommend that, but I do encourage you, if you can, to pack things yourself - you'll be more careful than the movers, and you'll remember where everything is and pack in a way that makes sense for you. I also second PP's suggestion to review movers closely and supervise them.

Because I can afford it and don’t want to do it. I will never pack myself again after having professional packers.

OK, then, the cost shouldn't matter that much, right? And don't come on here after your move to complain that they broke stuff, lost stuff or put it in the wrong places!

Doesn’t it cost you more than that to take the time off?

No. If it's loca you do the packing n nights and weekends. If its long distance the time off is factored in the move. When my employer moved us from Dulles to San Diego they gave us $15000 and two weeks to move. We spent about $2000 total and made it leisurely across the country in 8 days.

Nothing broke. Worth every penny.
