I'm sure the people who were on the flight have been notified.

If I had to stay home for 12 months with a newborn, I would have gone CRAZY.

Not to mention some parents have jobs and need to work to survive. Skipping daycare isn't an option for many.

Not to scare y'all, but I'm an 80s baby and I don't have measles immunity. I've been vaxxed, and boosted, and boosted again... i had another booster with my flu shot last fall (hoping the multi-shot approach, which gave me a gnarly fever and flu-like symptoms for about 3 days, would help power my immune response to the measles jab). Got my titers checked again last week: still no measles immunity. Fine against mumps and rubella, but...

So my suggestion would be to get your titers checked, get a booster if they don't come back showing full immunity, and then get your titers checked again. Apparently, some of us don't respond to the vaccine

You mean just like we all had jobs during COVID too? If it was a real threat and I had a newborn I would stay home absolutely, even if it did suck. That being said-I would think daycare is a more controlled environment since they require proper on time vaccination. So the only exposure they would come in contact with would be unvaxxed parents and other newborns. But I still wouldn’t even take that risk.

Or the kids with vaccine religious exemptions, or the nonvax kids and adults.

Same thing happened to me but i finally responded after the third shot. This outbreak has the potential to be really bad.

Don't worry. RFK Jr. is telling everyone to drink cod liver oil rather than to get vaccinated so we should all be fine. Elections have consequences.

Are these break through cases or have the people with measles not ever been vaxxed?

Most vaccinated persons who appear to lose antibody show an anamnestic immune response upon revaccination, indicating that they are probably still immune.

The 6 yo texas kid who died had never been vaxxed. The Texas cases were unvaxxed as far as I know from the news media. The rest of the states, I don't know--there are so many outbreaks now. Presumably they were all unvaxxed--the measles vaccination is highly effective.

Please consult your doctors and try not to cause unnecessary alarm/hysteria. We are fortunate to live in an area that meets the vaccination rate needed for herd immunity. It’s not helping anyone to just stoke fear without facts. That is, frankly, what the other side does. If you have a newborn or are immunocompromised, ask your doctor whether you should avoid airports or low vax rate areas for the time being. And be glad you live in DMV area.

What's your source of data that people in the DMV area are in the aggregate sufficiently vaccinated to meet heard immunity (which is 94-95% for measles)?

According to the CDC 3 out of ever 100 fully vaccinated (2 MMR doses) will get measles if exposed

If you had just one MMR (80s kids) it's 7 out of 100

The problem with measles is that it's highly contagious - you have a 90% chance of getting it if you're in the room with it. And it can linger in the air in the room hours after the infected person leaves.

HEPA purifiers are very effective at removing viruses from the air, and so is UVC. We should be using this everywhere by now to prevent covid, flu, measles and all other airborne diseases
