Pause on federal grants

This is a horror show!

The grants are contracts so they are ordering a massive breach of contract.

He doesn't even understand before he signs. Where is the media talking about his age and "dementia" just imagine if Biden was there how they went after his age

Nursing homes, hospitals, schools, colleges, research institutes, states, all rely on these grants. Tens of millions of jobs. It’s going to get real bad real fast.

I hope every grantee calls their Senators and Representatives tomorrow and lights up their phone lines complaining. This will impact people in every single state.

The memo says the agency reviews are not due to OMB until February 10, so I don't think this is going to get resolved anytime soon. This is going to inflict enormous pain not just on the recipients of the services that these grants fund, but also on those who work to administer and deliver these programs, most of whom are modestly paid and working for organizations that can't bankroll more than a couple of weeks of pay, if that. What a cruel and inhumane way to cut back on spending. American should be ashamed of itself. We are the laughing stock of the democratized western world.

I am devastated. I remind the administration that the City of Milwaukee is owed $75 million for law enforcement security for the Republican Presidential Nominating Convention this past summer. This was a grant.

Is Trump’s concept of a plan to grind the American economy to a halt?

Except that the blue states and blue regions of red states will do this. Or will the others finally join?!

At what point does congress step in? They are so worried about Musk primarying them when they really need to worry about reelection in general.

That already happened about a decade ago. Next?

I guess the silver lining is a lot of people are about to find out about how federal spending benefits them.

The only silver lining for academia is that funds are often disbursed in chunks throughout the year, so there may be a few months before programs actually have to lay off personnel. But I imagine other activities invoice more frequently, so disruptions could arrive sooner.

I have a feeling that if paychecks are cut off, all those who have lost them because of this mismanagement will be upset.

This.

MAGA has been whining about federal spending for years and how they “get nothing”. They are about to find out and it looks like it will be quite a surprise.

And it will be interesting to show how big tech was built on federal government grants and loan assistance and why productivity in America is the best in the world. It will be interesting to show the great American decline as research and development are pulled back.

Biting off your nose to spite your face—that’s what this administration is doing. Shame, shame shame!
