Yes, are you outdoorsy? Shopping? Museums? Beaches?

Big groups so ideally a mix of interests. Some hiking is good but not everyone up to more arduous physical activities. Mainly art, food, museums, other cultural stuff. Not looking for a long spa weekend. Some markets or interesting arts or craft shops. Otherwise not shopping. Bit of beach is fine but not lying out all day.

You're not giving us a lot to go on OP. All we can do is tell you stuff like, have you been to Nashville? How about Seattle?

We really need at least ONE thing that can help guide you here. Unless you're just asking in the broadest possible way for examples of fun things to do in the US or other countries of North America.

That said obviously Las Vegas is the answer here.

Not trying to be obscure. Previously we have managed to combine food tours, restaurants, art galleries, markets, history tours and hikes all in one trip. Realised many destinations don’t offer that breadth though.

Do you like nightlife? A big city? A small city? What sort of hiking are we talking about - 20 mile hikes or 2 miles on a nature trail? Do you care about weather? Do you care about distance? Where have you liked and where haven't you liked? Do you want off the beaten path - or do you not mind a beaten path?

Really, there's just about endless possibilities here.

Flexible whether a place is big or small and on weather (prefer it's not too hot but don't imagine that's too much of an issue in October). No more than a 5 or 6 hour flight. Re nightlife, happy to go to bars or music but otherwise more interested in good restaurants or theatre. I think you missed me saying earlier that we can only do some hiking as physical capabilities vary a lot. A 1-1.5 hour easy to mid-level hike is good but something more strenuous is probably out. On previous trips, we have liked art galleries and museums, anthropology museums, history tours, food tours, craft markets, wandering through interesting city centres and parks (I guess seeing 'street life'). Of course, I do realise most places won't offer all of these things and perhaps this trip could end up being more chilled than the last ones.

I have already done 5 day trips with the same group and so am comfortable with the amount of time. The number of days does depend partly on travel each way.

Just go to Savannah. You'll like it.

I think you might be right. I feel guilty suggesting it as DH and I had planned a weekend there on our own two weeks ago but had to cancel the night before when DS started throwing up (turned out all night). But I have checked with him and he is fine with me going without him.

Newport in the spring? Can do a day in Providence as well. The mansions are interesting, lots of cute little shops as well. American and United fly direct.

I really think Savannah will be perfect for this trip - and you can go back with your husband. I've been to Savannah four or five times now and I always enjoy it.

My only hesitation is that five days might be a bit long, unless you want to rent a car and take some day trips. In addition to the things that are super close - the beach islands, the salt marshes you can go to Hilton Head for a day if you feel like it. You can get to Charleston in about two hours from there, and even head down to Amelia Island (2 hrs) or St Augustine in about three hours. (Actually, St Augustine is another place I'd consider for this trip, now that I think of it - I love St Augustine, and I think it's sort of ideal for a girls trip; though again, you'd want a car for some day trips after about day 2.5-3.)

Another place I'd consider, at the opposite end of the weather spectrum, is Portland, Maine. I only think of it because I'm considering a week-long trip there this summer with my spouse and parents, so I've been checking out stuff to do in the area and in the city, and I feel like we'll easily be able to fill a very nice week.

That is amazing. You really are a unicorn on here. You must have chill friends and good dynamics. Do you share rooms? Do you have a variety of activities and downtime? I'm really curious! Maybe it's because you are "internationals"?
