My son thought for sure he would be disciplined, not back the next day of school.

This is hilarious. Kids don't even get disciplined anymore. You think the teachers will?

The PP’s son is incorrect about the shover being back at work. I do not know if the other person has also been suspended but the guy who did the pushing has not been at work this week.

Did your child see the fight from the beginning? And before we start in true DCum style....I;m not excusing anything just asking if we have the whole story.

What could possibly be an acceptable catalyst for intentionally knocking down a disabled person?

DP....the point is this could have been a lot more. There is never an excuse to knock down any other human(disabled or not)....but we don't know what was said so the question was did your child witness the entire interaction? Admin could have found out that both sides were abusive and took care of the problem with HR. I know FCPS parents think they know it all but they don't. We also know everyone wants to talk about Lewis because they are afraid of boundary changes so I think it's ok that a question was asked for the story from beginning to end.

Again... There is nothing that could be said at any point in the altercation to justify knocking someone down.
How this incident happened is irrelevant to the anti redistricting crowd. It's the students they don't want their kids near.

That anyone was actually knocked down is hearsay.

What is this “disabled” stuff? Some kind of attempt to throw blame 100% on the other teacher? Even people who are disabled have agency, and if they are getting into screaming, shoving matches in the hall, need to be responsible for their part of it. Clearly, this person isn’t so disabled that they can’t be a teacher.

Yes. I would hope so.

Now, you will get to see the teacher's union in action........

Very few teachers are part of the union.

Interesting are you a teacher....most teachers I know are part of a union.

Are those teachers in VA? unions exist in many other states.

They probably had a productive Restorative Justice circle and that's why the teacher was allowed back! Maybe the admin also gave him a snack and had him do a think sheet.

Oh, we’re not even supposed to do a think sheet anymore. That could cause the child to dislike writing. Directive at my school. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Is there anything that isn’t a trigger anymore? Although I guess it would be a moot point for those who can’t read or write.

There is not a current functioning teacher’s union. Some teachers were members of FCFT or FEA but those were not unions in the (usually negative) sense y’all traditionally mean. The new, actual union is still being fashioned and has zero members.

Teachers are still members of FEA and FCFT. No new union is being formed. FEA and FCFT worked together as one bargaining team under FEU (Fairfax Education Unions).

… and the FEA AND FCFT as they exist today are not unions. Glad we cleared this up.

How about laps at recess, then?

If an FCPS elementary principal gets convicted of shoplifting in Target, she gets awarded with a promotion to an AP (in charge of the special education dept) at a high school!

Think about that!

I’d fully expect to be fired (or I’d resign) from my local government job for such a charge.

Never forget! Tochterman the Shoplifter!

That was a fun thing to explain to my DC!

2018! Teachers don’t get fired because administrators-assistant principals- don’t even get fired. Ridiculous and embarrassing for FCPS. Our tax dollars at work.

Here’s just one report:

An assistant principal at Hunters Woods Elementary School has been placed on leave after she was arrested for shoplifting at a Target in Reston, according a spokesman for the Fairfax County Public Schools System.

Melissa Tochterman, 47, of Herndon, was arrested and charged with grand larceny last Thursday evening.
Tochterman left the store with a cart full of unpaid items. Video footage showed she left with $690 worth of merchandise, police said.

Tochterman was cleared. Firing someone after they were absolved of criminal charges is questionable and probably a good way to get ensnared in an expensive lawsuit. But hey, you can be a convicted felon and be POTUS!

No laps at recess allowed at any FCPS school. That is called corporal punishment now.
