NCAP Prep swimmers to skip Metros for Altitude Camp

No, Metros is a legit meet, and if one club coach got his kids to skip it, other coaches could follow. Then the prestige could slip (see: zones/sectionals, which are now less attended).

Metros is a legit meet the kids, coaches and parents look forward to and many High Schools who cannot participate (Virginia) would kill to

Meh. Virginia public high school here and would not kill to participate. Maybe private?

NCap prep skipping won't affect the meet; they only have a few swimmers who are any good anyway.

I think OP's point is that NCap Prep is being a-holes for putting their swimmers in this positions, since Metros is a big deal to the kids

Hi NCAP Prep troll. Again, since I know you lack basic comprehension skills, the trip to OTC is for all of NCAP, it is not just Prep. There is not some conspiracy against Metros being led by the Prep coaches. And I know you keep telling yourself that Prep has very few good HS swimmers, but that is actually just not true, which anyone currently involved in club swimming in this area is well aware of. Stay bitter though, it’s a good look.

And yes, the school keeps track of the 2 meet rule so after missing two HS meets for NCI, my swimmer will go to the HS meet after the PVS meet. It would be awesome if next year PVS wouldn’t have the older kids swim in the evening so we could avoid and the conflict.

And no one is “made” to go on these trips.

That doesn’t work either, there are MCPS meets all day. A lot of kids will just swim Sunday if they have a HS conflict.

But also, two HS meets during NCI??

Yep. Our HS (FCPS) had two dual meets that weekend and DC swam in finals at NCI both Friday and Saturday night so missed both meets.

The OTC trip for 14 and unders is this weekend.

It is open to ALL of NCAP.

Last I checked, Metros is not, in fact, this weekend.

So basically, the whole premise of this thread is trolling bullshit.

EVIL NCAP PREP COACHES MAKE ALL NCAP SWIMMERS CHOOSE BETWEEN TRIP TO EXPERIENCE TRAINING AT THE OLYMPIC TRAINING CENTER AND THE PVS JANUARY OPEN!!!

Don’t worry, your precious WJ swim team will have its full roster.

So if you look at all of the club kids (most NCAP, but some other clubs too) who go to 2 of U.S. Open, NCI, AAC LC, OTC, and IMX will not be able to swim Metros, Regions, States by rule.

I don't believe this is a MCPS rule, might be but a coach can override/excuse?

I know for a fact swimmers weren't held to it in 2023.

It’s 100 percent a rule. But some coaches tend to be lenient and can have final say. But it’s in the handbook. And I’ve heard of schools who do follow it, so don’t say it’s a fact that swimmers aren’t held to it

This the rule:

Eligibility Requirements for Championship Meets
The minimum number of meets in which an athlete must compete to qualify for postseason championship meets is six out of seven or five out of six meets respectively, unless in the judgment of the coach and the athletics specialist, the swimmer/diver was legitimately absent due to illness, testing or other unavoidable reasons.

Now would a coach sit a club swimmer?

Definitely not the kind that is missing December meets for Winter juniors, etc.

I'm sure there are coaches who would, I just meant I know of swimmers who weren't. So many so that I didn't even know it was a rule.

Also, interesting, I wonder how this rule applies to metros. If metros is/isn't considered a meet covered by the handbook? Curious as private school teams have their own rules.

According to the county, Division Championship meets commence the postseason.
