D.C.-area federal workers targeted with trio of bills

Depends on size, I guess. My agency only has ~1500 feds and everyone works in DC. Packing up 450 of them and sending them somewhere else makes no sense.

Looks like DoD, DHS, IC, and Geospatial are exempt from the bill’s relocation requirements. So basically the largest federal employers in the area lol

A better way is to increase remote positions in headquarter, so that agency can hire more people outside DC metro area.

Yup. This is all smoke and mirrors BS. It's also frustrating that this is breathlessly reported on as some huge change proposal instead of the boring fact that it doesn't really change much of anything.

The problem is, is that they have to hurt at least a few people in order to get some headlines. And they will have to do that hurt for no defensible reason other than "government bad".

But what is the actual point of moving work out of DC?

Should the movie industry have the goal of moving work out of California? Should the financial industry have the goal of moving work out of NYC? Should the agriculture industry have the goal of moving work out of Iowa?

The point is to demean and devalue the workers by scapegoating them as a problem.

Yah - I agree. It is not official, but you can see when I log in, log out, send an email, use messenger, save a file, make a call, update share point.

We are maybe not officially tracked but it is obvious if you aren’t working

Performative nonsense which hopefully will die quickly.

So silly - what data would they even want? Not all of us are constantly typing. We get phone calls, we read things in hard copy - I have hard copies of statutes and regs I’m often consulting. Am I going to have to randomly hit computer keys?

It is pretty ridiculous. It is easy to bust someone who is not working. Send emails and call every hour and document how long it is for a response. The people who are offline not doing work would be fully busted in a week.

I hope every single person in DC, from the trash man to hospitals, refuse service to this lying b!t*h. Substantively, if Congress agrees on these measures, so be it, but to call it Drain the Swamp is hugely offensive.

I'd also like to point out that this will cost a lot of money.

I’m guessing you’re a fed. Maybe some anger management classes? Kisses.

Um, those aren't the jobs she's talking about. Nice try though. News flash: Feds, you aren't indentured servants. If you don't like the terms, stop working on the backs of tax payers and get real jobs.

I think you mean "please accept my thanks for your public service".

I don’t get the point of all this. My DH is a fed working in a fed office outside of DC. I don’t see the point of shifting any more of his agency to other parts of the country just to do it. It doesn’t make any sense. There are tons of federal workers spread across the country. Why do we need more?

Is DC the US capital or not? It is the seat of our government. Why move more federal jobs out of the federal district?

You all do realize that a lot of other cities have similar COLAs right? A lot are even more expensive than DC. This would not be a cost savings measure.

I’m familiar with BLM. Trump tried to move it to CO and they lost so many people that they’re still not adequately staffed.
