Why do you think this is media driven? Very few kids/teens watch the evening news or read the NYT over breakfast. They get their news and information through many sources but certainly not main stream media. And they are certainly introduced to these ideas of gender fluidity and LGBQT long before they arrive on any college campus. So I really don’t understand what point you think you are making.

Middlebury was ranked 4th in the 2017 USNWR ranking which was the last one before they started down the path of “social mobility” as a ranking metric. Swat was 6th.

WASP is just an acronym like HYPSM. Great schools but not the only great schools. Also, depends on what you want to do. If you want to be a scientist then Caltech or Harvey Mudd are top choices.
