Will FCPS have a day off on Jan 9 (federal holiday)?

My kids also have no idea who Jimmy Carter is because they're never in school. Open schools and start teaching them. A bunch of lazies.

Not sure what planet you’re on, but FCPS was closed for Veterans Day last month. I know because we had our school ceremony on Friday, November 8. We couldn’t do it on the 11th because school was closed.

20-21: Early release
21-22: Early release
22-23: School planning day
23-24: Veterans Day was a Saturday
24-24: Holiday

Not terribly consistent. We’re LCPS and if Veterans Day is a weekday, we never get it off.

You quoted my post. I was responding to someone who said “[FCPS] won’t close for Veterans Day.” That’s wholly inaccurate. Not sure what LCPS has to do with this.

Wholly inaccurate, except for the fact they were not closed in two of the four years when Veterans Day was on a weekday. I cited LCPS as an example of a school district that never recognizes the holiday.

FYSA, January 9th will not be a "Federal Holiday" and no other Presidential funeral has been declared one. Federal holiday would mean ALL federal workers are off. This is a day or mourning and Washington, DC offices will likely be closed for the day. Now whether employees with telework agreements in DC will have to work or they will give them the day off, remains to be determined.

They close offices due to the disruption to the city. DC schools might close, but no reason for a Virginia school to close.

My whole agency is closed, not just the DC offices. Same thing happened when HW Bush died.

That is your agency decision, not OPM.

Sorry, Biden gave all employees the day off not OPM. It is not a Federal Holiday (nor was the 24th) - it is an executive order from the boss letting his employees off work. Our contractors still have to work, but cannot in federal space.

If your kids are never in school, that sounds like a parenting failure and perhaps CPS need to pay a visit to your home to assess whether it’s a proper environment for children.

No. It’s all federal agencies.

But, FCPS didn’t close for Bush or Ford. They are highly unlikely to close here.

This. They will be closed all week.

It is not a federal holiday. It’s a National day of mourning. They won’t close.
