Will FCPS have a day off on Jan 9 (federal holiday)?

Anonymous
How does FCPS handle unplanned federal holidays like Jan. 9 which Biden just announced as a federal holiday (Carter's viewing).

Nothing announced on their website.

Trying to plan child care or even considering a long weekend trip.

Why would FCPS have this off? They don’t follow all federal holidays.

I don't think FCPS closed for Bush's state funeral in 2018.

They will not close.

No. They won’t close for Veterans Day, they won’t close for this.

they're closed for Veteran's Day next year.

+1, FCPS notoriously loves to announce things over breaks. It has occurred over the past 10 years. If they have it announced it by tomorrow, it’s not happening.

It’s supposed to snow on Monday, January 6.

Yes they do.
Thanksgiving, independence day (for summer school kids), inauguration day, MLK Day, President's Day.

Not sure where FCPS draws the line especially since this is unplanned.

+1, the only federal holiday inconsistent over the years has been Veterans Day.

No. They haven’t done so in the past for presidents. I remember when Ford died at the end of 2006. The day of mourning was the first week in January, and school was open. However, my daycare provider decided she was taking that day as federal holiday, and I didn’t learn it until I was standing on her front step with a one year old. Thankfully my principal was very flexible about providing coverage while I scrambled.

Not sure what planet you’re on, but FCPS was closed for Veterans Day last month. I know because we had our school ceremony on Friday, November 8. We couldn’t do it on the 11th because school was closed.

20-21: Early release
21-22: Early release
22-23: School planning day
23-24: Veterans Day was a Saturday
24-24: Holiday

Not terribly consistent. We’re LCPS and if Veterans Day is a weekday, we never get it off.

Why are you chiming in with irrelevant info? This is specifically FCPS not LCPS.

You quoted my post. I was responding to someone who said “[FCPS] won’t close for Veterans Day.” That’s wholly inaccurate. Not sure what LCPS has to do with this.
