Varsity Tutors calling with offer from FCPS

Did they consult with parents about this? It seems to be another fail just like tutor.com. We were willing to try it out and it took them so long to find the tutor they had promised within 24 hours. Found another one. Was willing to try for my other kid and was not impressed with who they found. I would much prefer they put that money toward teacher raises or give it to families to use toward tutors they find. Save a certain amount for families at, below or just above poverty level to get free tutoring and not to have to go searching on their own.

Ww tried using varisty tutors but none of the tutors they offered were qualified.
I strongly disliked their process of selecting thw tutor for you. They just kept offering unqualified inexperienced tutors (and they sre NOT cheap).

It’s too bad teachers can’t serve as tutors. Why couldn’t FCPS pay current teachers to provide even after school services like this? Why must they outsource?

They do ask FCPS teachers to tutor. Very few teachers apply.

I would have loved this when my 504 child went through FCPS. In fact would love it now in college. Tutoring is so expensive.

I worked for Varsity Tutors several years ago. They don’t “search” for tutors. They post the job on a website and you click on it if you’re interested in the job. As a tutor, you don’t see every job available, only the subjects in which you specify.

My child is a straight A student and has a 504. We signed up. It's great! We got a guy who does AP Calc BC every Monday and AP Physics C every Thursday. She had a 92.3 in the class and now has a 98. We're happy. They will tutor through March. I'm sure come March we will have to pay to extend. We might to get her ready for AP exams. I feel very lucky to have this resource.

My kids have been tutored by FCPS teachers for years now. They charge us more than FCPS is paying per hour for varsity

And like me, they may not declare the income which is another advantage.

My son has an IEP and we used it. Went from a B in honors Chem to an A-. It is not like tutor.com. He meets 1:1 with a tutor for 1 hour, twice a week.

Also varisty does essay checks. This is a separate free service. My son uses it too. Runs his essays by Varsity before handing them in. We'd be fools not to use these free resources.
