A phone call? Oh no!!!

Are you Gen Z? That you can't handle a phone call?

It is a violation of privacy for FCPS to give out this personal student information, including the medical diagnosis of ADHD, private email, private phone number, student name and location/school/grade to a for profit company.

None of the parents consented to this information being sold or shared.

FCPS only cares if your DC is in danger of failing the SOLs. Tutoring and offers of help arrive too little, too late.

Opt out of SOLs. Seek a private tutor for in-person help.

Mom of 3 FCPS graduates/college students.

I’d gladly take it. We pay a lot monthly for online tutoring.

The representative said they offer tutoring for foreign language and some other elective subjects in addition to core academic classes. We don't need the services but it's good to know.

FCPS giving out this private information violates HIPPA.

ADHD is a medical diagnosis.

Schools are not doctors. They don't diagnose and don't use diagnoses. They care about issues that impact a student's ability to access the curriculum. That's all they care about.

HIPAA violation? That's what nutters say.

I’m the PP and to my knowledge Varsity Tutors had no idea why my child has a 504.

FCPS should contact parents whose children have an IEP or 504 and ask if they want FCPS to forward their info to Varsity Tutors.

Varsity Tutors is free for all FCPS students. https://www.fcps.edu/services/families-and-caregivers/family-academy/tutoring-options/online-tutoring-service

Varsity Tutors reached out to me via phone call, text and email. The sessions are twice a week (scheduled) and free but you have to sign up by JAN 1. They repeat this every time.

My child is not interested. I am slightly curious about the quality but could not convince my kid to participate.

Sorry.

I should have written FERPA.

As a contracted vendor some info can be shared with them, but they also have to follow the rules of FERPA.

Varsity Tutors is also contracted to “finish up” compensatory services (if families consent to the hours being used that way) and I understand that offering this to students with IEPs/504s was part of the agreement as well. My kid has used them about a month. It’s been useful for Algebra 2/chem. They’re pretty responsive. It’s a live tutor twice a week, over video.

FCPS isn't going to violate FERPA or HIPPA with an outside firm. They have competent attorneys. Why can't people just view this as a resource and decide if they want to use it or not instead of acting like their rights were violated? God I hate FCPS parents.

I was just more curious why it was being offered- like who is forcing FCPS to do this?

My private kids info has been shared all over so I am kind of over that part.

No one is “forcing” FCPS to have Varsity Tutors call you. It is one of the many ways to fulfill the compensatory services requirement. It is one of the many means to an end.
