My (potential) date wants a ride

He could be your soulmate, OP.

Totally fine NOT to have a car if you live in a large urban center with public transport and difficult parking. NYC, Boston Chicago to name. But you get to dates on your own.
NOT ok to live in rural VA and don’t have a car.

If he doesn’t look just like his photos or better, drive past without stopping

There are a lot of explanations here, but all of them are bad. But at its most basic, you can get in a vehicle with a stranger. This guy is a stranger. Even Uber gives more protection than this.

No, OP, just…no. He should not be asking for a favor and he should be enough of a grown up to get himself to your date. Even if he’s not a serial killer, he may be testing your boundaries as far as favors and willingness to do things for him. Just gather your self-respect and let him know it’s not going to work out. Don’t tell him why in case he’s a serial killer and changes his strategy for his next victim.

It could have been worse OP. He could have Ubered to your date and then asked for a ride home. This is a big NO too.

Your post reminded me of this.

But seriously op, when we first dated, neither DH or I had a car.

If women can ask men to pick them up, why can't men ask the same?

That being said, dating randos is a risky business.

One can choose to not have a car and declare one is living a car free life but then can't later bum rides from others who have cars.

what does this mean?

NP, it means even if he isn’t a violent offender he sounds like a bum.

or more likely he lost his license. Or is too poor to own a car. Or is epileptic. Or has a fear of driving. etc

Don't demand to use others' cars then if committed to car free lifestyle.

Anyone can ask.

It's generally easier for man to defend himself or murder his female date than vice versa.

I was on a date with a man I met speed dating years ago. I took metro to the location and he offered me a ride home. I was very hesitant and he said - take a picture of my license plate and me and text it to your roommate and tell her to expect you home in 20 minutes. I accepted the ride (it was a long metro ride). We didn’t go on any more dates but I appreciated he understood the safety angle. Nonetheless, looking back, I probably shouldn’t have gone in a car with a stranger.
