So I bought a $1600 cashmere coat

I wanted a more elegant and elevated look. Are all expensive coats like this?

Fit is 90% of what makes expensive clothes look good. If you're willing to go to that price point, go to somewhere that has an in-house tailor. Brooks Brothers a J Press come to mind.

The other 10% is largely in the details, things like quality of material and the way seams are finished. Most people do not notice those things. But once you develop an eye for it, you can't unsee how "bad" most clothing looks these days.

Thank goodness. This post was giving me anxiety. There are nice things that fit well out there on sale.

I just looked up the brand and their pieces are lovely. Sorry it didn't work for you, OP.

Agreed. I bought a black Fleurett 100% cashmere coat last year at Nordstrom on sale for $575 that I absolutely love. I did have to size up, but the cut is absolutely amazing on me.

Haha, I bought a Maxmara coat and my husband said it looked like a house coat. It was before Covid. I still have not worn it once.

Im sorry as well, that stinks when its a special big purchase and it doesn’t work out

I want to reward myself with new boots around $500 (big splurge!) and went to Tyson’s over the weekend to see some in person and quality of even higher price point items are just crap right now - I’m going to have to raise my budget just to get something of actual value

Maybe wear cashmere sweaters and a wool coat.

Coats are functional for me more than fashionable. I wear a coat so I don't get frostbite. I sometimes have to scrape ice off my car, walk through slush, and get in and out of a car that needs to be washed.

I like dark color coats that don't show dirt during the day.

Unfortunately I am returning 2 wool coats to Macy's today. I didn't like the cut or fit

It's probably not your imagination OP.

Wool coats for women this season are wrap style that reminds me of a bathrobe or boxy that looks like a man's coat.

I can't find a simple wool coat with a small collar that buttons up all the way. I dress up the coat with a more expensive scarf and broach pin.

Buy a cashmere scarf and return the cashmere coat.

I see that it's also made in America. They generally don't make stuff in the US that isn't made with nice fabric etc. So you are not paying for sweatshop labor. I would pay that much for a coat of that quality made here. I highly doubt it is equivalent to a cheaper coat in fabric or construction if you put them side by side.

Cashmere coats are more about comfort and less about look.

Maybe work on your spelling first. An expensive coat won't cover up your poor education.

And you can work on your kindness, good schooling can't cover up smug meanness.

Why are you having out in a fashion board if you're this much of a judgmental b about someone else's purchases? And your rent is dirt cheap. Get a better job and maybe you can afford a nice coat too. Merry Christmas.

DMV has plenty of foreign workers with PHD. Weird for you to flex your native language under a coat post.
