| Is this a comedy?? Or is it just unintentionally funny? I can't figure out what it's trying to be. |
It is a thriller with some elements of humor. OK? |
What's with your snarky "OK?" |
NP Likely because your baffled response is a bit over the top. Obviously the humor is deliberate. Have you never heard of a thriller with some dark comedy woven in? |
Hilarious. |
Yes, of course. "Fargo" is a perfect example. Also: The Usual Suspects, Ocean's Eleven, Snatch, Grosse Pointe Blank, 12 Monkeys, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Out of Sight, Parasite, Get Out, In Bruges, Pulp Fiction, etc. So many great ones. If "Black Doves" is attempting to be funny, it's falling short. |
Aside from In Bruges, all the stories you list are American. Black Doves is British, a more sophisticated and subtle form of humor. |
Oh, dear. There’s really nothing sophisticated about this show, humor or otherwise. Sorry. DP |

Any series that begins and end s with The Pogues "Fairytale of New York," the best sing while drunk Christmas song ever, had to be ironic. It thought the show suspend belief in many instances but I love some of the characters. The two fledging assassins, one of who received a rocket launcher for her birthday ending up partying on their canal boat with the daughter/heroin junkie of the Chinese ambassador who was accidentally killed by her heroin dealer. I love the gravel voice, spec wearing down market assassin employer. The 42 year old CIA secretary from Delaware was brilliant. I dealt with many women like her at overseas postings. The kids were cute. I am sad that Michael did not end up going back to the assassin but he had to think of Ruby.
It was droll and violent but clever. |
The Pogues with Kirsty MacColl - don't forget Kirsty! I used to hang out with her in certain theatre / live music pubs in London. |
Yes, that was Kirsty's song: "You scumbag, you maggot, you cheap lousy faggot." She met a terrible end while that gorgeous b*****d Sean McGowan lived longer than any body abused as his was should ever have lasted. |
I posted above that I loved it but yes! |
Yeah I kept thinking, what is her cover story? She just disappears "shopping" for hours at a time? And has been doing so for years? Overall I found the show entertaining but some of it was a bit
|
That part didn’t seem odd to me because before this she wasn’t going on missions or anything. She was just feeding info which only took like a few minutes once a month or so probably. What didn’t track for me is that she didn’t seem like a very good liar. When he asks her about the night they met, she just seems like a deer in headlights. A good liar or con artist would have recognized her mark was wobbly and been able to use that moment to shore up their position. She just brushed it off. |
| I am on the second to last episode and I am confused! I am finding it hard to follow. I feel so stupid. I like Keira though! |
