HS Private school GIRLS Tryouts

I 90% agree with the general opinion here, but remember that the 2 best D1 players in the past 5 years both came from "non traditional" areas and faced some of the same criticism as well. North from Texas and Scane from Michigan.

GC, SJC, BI, PVI, AHC, and O'Connell all cut Girls from both JV and Varsity, and none of them are going to do equal play on either level they are looking to win. If your DD is new to the sport or just a below-average player who needs work she may only see the game time in blowout wins or losses. That being said I have seen very athletic girls pick up a stick one week for the first time and they just get it, and by the season's end, they are on varsity starting. So I would encourage you to have her try out regardless because you really just never know.

did she play defense? was the varsity team not very good?
you are definitely pointing out an exception rather than the norm.

A Varsity Starter in less than a season?!?! On top of academics and team practices everyday, this girl must have hit the wall a tremendous amount to have the stick skills to beat out other Varsity girls to start in such a short amount of time.

Yea, believe it or not there are a ton of more athletic girls out there playing other sports that are just much better than your daughter who’s not as athletic but been playing lax for 10 years. Yes, there will be some girls that walk right on the field and pick back up bc they played until 5-6 grade and then stopped to focus on their main sport. But all along they’ve been working out 3 hours a day, seven days a week forever by now and they’re extremely fit, fast and athletic. Give them a year with a stick in their hands playing
against less superior athletes on JV and their coming for your daughters starting spot on varsity….at least I know my daughters coming for you haha!

This made up scenario was that some girl was able to pick up a stick for the first time, and after 2-3 months of playing varsity (not one year), became the Starting Middie of one of the Top Private High Schools beating out future D1 Commits. We all can dream. Maybe your daughter can be first!

This is in no way a made-up scenario this girl who plays middie was 2nd team all-conference last year in a conference full of high-level D1 middie commits. It happened, and it happens more than you probably think. Please show any of us where you saw a claim that it was a "Top private"? I for sure did not see someone claim it was at GC, SR, Visi, or SSASA just that it happened at a local private.

The original post mentioned those schools. What it comes down to is there is no proof and the original story keeps changing.

The OPs' list also mentioned several other WCAC schools besides GC that most would probably not consider to be top programs but are still usually competitive and play at a high level.

"GC, SJC, BI, PVI, AHC, and O'Connell"

Playing for a school like Marshall, where they averaged 4.5 goals in all games and less than 2 goals a game in their losses, is hardly worth bringing up in any context whatsoever. Yes, I believe a good athlete could start for teams like this but not really validating any kind of point.

Curious how people feel about the coaches at some of these WCAC schools. Which one is better to play for?

GC coach is best in WCAC by far and the girls seem to enjoy playing for him. Then PVI coach. BI seems solid and did give GC a tough half last year and beat Visi. DJO coach seems to know the game pretty well, just has no depth (GC freshman team just beat them handedly in indoor). SJC coach is unproven at HS level yet so TBD. AHC coach seems nice.

Indoor at St James is irrelevant

New SJC coach is really impressive. Has college coaching pedigree, focused on development of the player and the person, high standards for fitness and stick skills. Players are responding well. Looking forward to seeing her offensive and defensive schemes.

She plays midfield just as a straight-up athlete she is also a 4 year varsity starter for basketball and plays AAU outside of school and is extremely bright looking to major in engineering.

Most impressive!

You shouldn't have to agree with any of it. The top athlete at any school can pick up lacrosse and be one of its best players in a short amount of.time. Might be year 1, maybe 2. Depending.

Not sure why folks get offended by that notion. If your DD is one of the better athletes (or players), it'll be someone else's kid that gets bumped. And any player that can be one of the team's best will make the team better. It's a team sport.

You're kidding right, Marshall lacrosse ? btw - congratulations on the commitment to Villanova field hockey, not lacrosse. I'd say this player represents more about how easy it is to succeed in field hockey than lacrosse.

Yeah, ok. Would love to hear how you think field hockey success is 'easy' compared to lacrosse? but great back-handed insult to a young lady going to play D1 sports.

Screw field hockey. This is a lacrosse thread.
