Did your big toddler end up a big kid/adult?

We have one outlier kid - DH is 5’10” and I am 5’8”. We have a 5 year old who is 52 pounds and 51” tall. Has always been 99th percentile since he was born. Wondering if he will stay like this or go back down to the norm given that DH and I are pretty average sized.

Your husband is on the short side but you are definitely above average height for a woman. Anecdotally i feel like a tall father has the biggest impact on having tall kids.

I hope you’re not one of the posters who claim their IQ is 145. 5’10” is not on the short side. It is the average “side”. You can’t change facts.

My eldest (girl) is currently 65% and very lengthy like DH and his family. Because she has not had a growth spurt and not close to getting her period (behind her peers), pediatrician thinks she might end up 5’7” or so.

my middle (girl) is 45% and looks just like me. She is about 1 inch taller than I was at her age so I guess she will end up 5’4”.

Youngest is a boy. He is not even 6 so might be losing % still. He is about 85% in height (much less in weight) and very lengthy just like his dad. My guess is he will end up shorter than his dad, but probably above 5’ 11”.

My parents are 5’9” and 5’4”. I am 5’3” and my brother 5’10”.

My husband’s parents were 6’3” and 5’7”. Kids were 5’9” (girl), 6’2” (DH), 6’ (girl), 6’ (boy).

The other thing I wanted to add is that it all depends on when puberty hits. I remember the tallest girl in elementary school had her period at 10 and is now shorter than me (maybe 5’2”).

My husband was tall as a young child and lost % until about highschool. He grew late and ended up one of the tallest in his grade.

I, on the other hand, kept my growth curve throughout. I was the 4th shortest girl (out of 12) in my elementary school class and I am one of the shortest moms at pick up…

OP - I have seen this as well regarding when puberty hits. I am of a race where puberty is later than Caucasians. I didn't go through puberty until close to 14 I think. I have an almost 10 year old daughter and she is not even close to showing signs of puberty where as many of her friends are.

My three sisters and I all got our periods around 15, same as our mother. We are all different heights as much as 8” difference between shortest and tallest. Who knows.

Every child is different. There are kids whose growth is mostly at later ages and other kids with steady growth and other kids whose growth mostly is at earlier ages.

What’s the point in stressing and trying to predict the future? Maybe your son will be 6’5” - who knows? You can’t do anything about it either way.

Why are people on here so obsessed with height?

Yes- All kids 96-99% growing up. DS is 6’5” and DD at 5’10 and 5’11”

My toddler was in the 99th percentile for many years until he slowly tapered off. He is 14 now and 5’9” which I think is still 70th percentile. Dad is 5’9” and mom is 5’2. He hit puberty early at age 12 so his pediatrician think he will level off at 5’10”.

OP - because at the rate he is going he is going to be 6'5" and 220 pounds. He is 99th percentile for weight and height. Just putting out anecdotal question about other big kids to see if kids stay on this trend forever.

My kids were always 99%+. My DD is in 3rd grade now and she is the tallest in her class, but there are other girls very close to her. She is 4'9'' at 9 years old. She has stayed pretty much consistent through out, always 97% plus.

Obviously she is not an adult yet so it's hard to say, but so far she is tracking on her growth curve and will likely end up 5'10''+

Old anecdote but my sisters and I were huge babies/children (both tall and heavy, 99th percentile for height/weight) but all dropped off when we were like 10. Other kids went through puberty and we just stayed small! Our parents were baffled when we were younger since they are both below average height but it seems like we just had our growth early. My two kids seem to be on the same trajectory (99 percentile for height/weight) in early elementary. But I bet they’ll slow down around puberty too.

Mine was predicted to be 6’6”. He ended up at 6’2”. Always the biggest kid in class from day one. Junior year people started catching him and some passing him.

No and yes.

Both of my kids were 90% percentile as toddlers, but during elementary school they slowed down and son (now 21) ended up being just a bit above male average height 5’10”.

Daughter (18) ended up being taller for women, 5’8”.

For reference 6’2” father, 5’3” mother. Interestingly Dad was not a big toddler, mom was.

If you have genetics he might end up big. My DH is very tall and was very tall all the way through. One of our kids seems to be similar - 6' 5" now and possibly still growing.

My cousin literally has their toddler on ozempic because he is so large for his age, so I thought we were talking about this, but it seems like the discussion is mostly about height.

Op - how is that even legal?

DS is proportional height to weight just big for both.
