My kids are still young (11, 9 and almost 6). They were all very tall (and my middle also very heavy) until about 4. Then they all lost in %. DH is 6’2” with a very tall family. I am 5’3” with average to low family height. My eldest (girl) is currently 65% and very lengthy like DH and his family. Because she has not had a growth spurt and not close to getting her period (behind her peers), pediatrician thinks she might end up 5’7” or so. my middle (girl) is 45% and looks just like me. She is about 1 inch taller than I was at her age so I guess she will end up 5’4”. Youngest is a boy. He is not even 6 so might be losing % still. He is about 85% in height (much less in weight) and very lengthy just like his dad. My guess is he will end up shorter than his dad, but probably above 5’ 11”. My parents are 5’9” and 5’4”. I am 5’3” and my brother 5’10”. My husband’s parents were 6’3” and 5’7”. Kids were 5’9” (girl), 6’2” (DH), 6’ (girl), 6’ (boy).
The other thing I wanted to add is that it all depends on when puberty hits. I remember the tallest girl in elementary school had her period at 10 and is now shorter than me (maybe 5’2”). My husband was tall as a young child and lost % until about highschool. He grew late and ended up one of the tallest in his grade. I, on the other hand, kept my growth curve throughout. I was the 4th shortest girl (out of 12) in my elementary school class and I am one of the shortest moms at pick up…
OP - I have seen this as well regarding when puberty hits. I am of a race where puberty is later than Caucasians. I didn't go through puberty until close to 14 I think. I have an almost 10 year old daughter and she is not even close to showing signs of puberty where as many of her friends are.
My three sisters and I all got our periods around 15, same as our mother. We are all different heights as much as 8” difference between shortest and tallest. Who knows.
