Can we get a district wide residency check of all FCPS high schools?

ACPS currently asks parents to submit three proofs of their child’s residency. That includes a lease bearing the name of a legal guardian, a deed or a mortgage, as well as two supporting documents, like a utility bill, tax bill, bank statements, vehicle registration, a tax return or postmarked letter from the federal government.

Assume they do the same in FCPS. My friends who lives in Falls Church, and wants to send their kids to Langley pyramid:

Lease: I write up a fake lease for my friends,
Bank statements: Just change his address to my McLean address
postmarked letter from the Fed: change his address to my McLean address with his employment.

Doesn't sound too difficult to accomplish.

No it’s not hard to ask for documentation at the start of every school year. No that doesn’t require a vast amount of time and effort for the majority of students. But for that small percentage they’ll be lots of resources spend on a small amount of of students and families.

Would it be less than the $20k we spend per year per student to educate them?

There are plenty of schools in the US what do residency checks. I'm sure we could figure out some tactics for doing that from them. Such as, bringing a valid lease and utilities statement to the school before the start of the school year to prove that you live in district? I would 100 percent support this before we get any further along in this boundary process. After the Hayfield disaster, it's the least FCPS should be doing.

You can game that as well. I just create a "fake" lease so that my friends who live in Falls Church can send their kids to Cooper MS or Langley HS.

Ah. Then "tenants" might owe tuition and all get class 4 misdemeanor.

Following links indicates the Hayfield homeless etc owe tuition to FCPS. One school cleaned out about 70 plus years ago - MD, DC, in boundary for other FCPS sites.

Many parents who do this are gaming the system. They own property (a cheap condo or something) in the boundary of the school they want and rent it out. We currently spend a lot of "resources" for consultants and reports on building facilities, high school football cheating and boundaries and such. The school board doesn't have problems spending money on that stuff. I'd be supportive of funding to ensure that kids in FC schools actually live inside those school boundary areas.

Welcome to the rat race that is Fairfax. Found a good piano teacher? Don't share that info it could take away from your kid! The new neighbors have Maryland plates? Some nosy neighbor will be reporting them to the county within 6 months. You planted a fruit tree in your backyard? The HOA president's b**** wife will use it against you in the future.

If the county is unwilling to verify residency for schools it's time to start raising awareness at the grassroots level. This has a real impact on those of us who have been doing the right thing and are about to be wronged by our local government that has an alternative agenda.

Also eliminate out of district permits for kids of teachers who put their kids in whatever school they want. There's a student in my DC's grade who went to all of ES and now MS completely out of her zone (think Reston instead of Herndon), then they'll go on to the HS where Mom teaches. How has this kid been in a completely different FCPS Region for seven years? Five more to go, and she's been preceded by an older sibling.

They don't need to knock on doors.

Ask any military connected family that has been hounded by FCPS over impact aid forms.

FCPS already has the infrastructure in place to easily confirm residency. They just need to use the Impact aid process.

This should be allowed as a benefit for teachers.

We need teachers and allowing their kids to attend their school is a small accomodation that benefits far more people than it harms.

That's why a water bill needs to be a requirement. Fairfax Water should be able to provide data to the county about account changes right?

+1 we already have a teacher retention problem. Let's not make it harder on them.
