And what’s his position and formal title again?

He and Musk have the ear of the President - elect (at least the one that wasn't shot off, so sad) and like it or not, they will be heard. They do not need a title, the President-elect and his staff will take their suggestions and run with them. You can laugh all you want, I feel this one is a bit of a "get you back" kind of thing from Trump, it is scary and unpredictable. So stop saying they do not have a title when that fact really does not matter.

it does matter, and Trump doesn't have the power that he thinks he does.

DP. PP is trying to help you. Your rationale isn’t as strong as you are posturing. There’s a lot they can do without the titles or power you are claiming they don’t have, though based on his last admin and moves so far I’m guessing that the people he’s choosing will fall far short of exercising the levers of govt he does have effectively towards any goals that might actually be achievable

However, Vivek has said he wants feds in the office 8-6 everyday and claims this can be done via EO. We shall see.

8-6 is illegal. Is Vivek a moron?

I’m going with yes, at least when it comes to management and any knowledge of the federal government.

Think this has any teeth to it?

What is interesting to me is that if this passed, members of the SES would still be able to telework because their pay doesn’t include locality pay.

I don’t think this has any chance of passing as is.

No. I mean they might end telework but I really doubt this is how they do it.

I effin hate these congresscritters who probably don’t work 100 days a year in DC grandstanding about this though.

Sounds like more bs. Same as it ever was with the magas.

Didn’t 8-6 the standard 9-5 in corporate america?

Some agencies reduced their space (pressure from congressional Republicans. Remember all those hearings?). If you force people to come in, agencies have to provide physical space. So a lot of talk, chaos and confusion.

Here’s the plan:

1) Put DOGE ppl at each U.S. agency, then use "advanced technology" (AI?) to have them identify "thousands" of regulations to cut across government

2) Give Trump a list of "thousands" of regs to cut across the government, & have him approve their elimination

3) Identify "the minimum number of employees" necessary to maintain each agency's core function, which should be lower once 2 is complete. (NB: Musk oversaw ~80% reduction in X headcount)

4) Cut the federal employees - Musk/Ramaswamy call for for severance packages/ "incentives for early retirement," but we have no details

5) Cut programs where where Congress's specific spending authorization has lapsed (This category includes VA health care, NASA, antipoverty programs)

6) Approve a "temporary suspension of payments" amid "large-scale audits" (Details, specifics hugely unclear)

7) Assert POTUS authority to stop spending w/o Congressional approval by challenging 1974 budget law on impoundments

All seems to be *w/o Congress*

Fight whatever you need to in courts

8-6 every day requires OT for all!

Right?! What a brilliant cost-cutting move!!

I know there are no answers but our office has hired quite a few remote workers. They actually make less because no DC locality pay. I wonder how they handle that.

Sigh. They are so stupid that I feel embarrassed for them.

It is an outside commission that lacks the ability to make rules or eliminate funding. All it can do is recommend.

They are bound by OPM rules and the separation of powers.

My prediction is that they will realize how complicated government is, make some stupid decisions, and run into Congressional opposition when they want to cut someone's pet project.

If they can put RFK, Tulsi Gabbard, Pete Hegseth, Matt Gaetz, Lee Zeldin, and Linda McMahon into positions they are deeply unqualified for they can probably get congress to go along with return to work. Also, I don’t understand how implementing RTO would lead to someone’s pet project being cut. That sounds like a separate situation.

I think the idea behind requiring RTO is that many people, including people who are hours away from a physical office, would quit and then not be replaced.

Ironically some of our best employees are remote. That would be a shame.
