| I don't believe "average" students are going to find much success at UMCP. |
Well, that was quite a humblebrag! Your kid won't get into a Top 20, but I predict plenty of options in the top 40-60 range. |

Anyone considering NY state schools? Binghamton would be a reach (or fully out of range) but maybe U Buffalo, which has good sports and school spirit.
Same question re Rutgers. I never see it mentioned on this board. (Our friend’s DS with similar stats chose Delaware with money, though I’m not sure how much. First semester, and he loves it so far.) |

3.51 GPA, 1440 SAT (hoping the SAT will help offset the GPA). Son wants warm weather!
Reaches Umiami Tulane UT Austin Target SMU Trinity (TX) Clemson Accepted Auburn |

This is patently incorrect and depends 100% on the school your child attend. Look at your school's Naviance. I have one at UVA now and thought the other had no chance, until I looked at the high school numbers in Naviance. My kids attended a diverse DMV public HS, and you absolutely do not need a 4.0 to get in from this HS. |
Clemson was a target for my kid with a 1430 sat and a 4.4 gpa |
| School data says target for Clemson, so who knows. It's not his top choice, so he won't be upset if he is rejected. He is really smart, but Freshman year was awful! Hopefully it is a balanced list and he gets some more acceptances! |
I guess so! Nice variety...My kid had Ohio St., BU, Lehigh and WM (among others)!

Instate GMU is well over $30k (Tuituon + housing + fees + transportationn+ health, etc. ) |
It's not "patently correct" (clearly false) because it is a true statement for 95% of the readers here. The SCHEV results clearly state that the 75th percentile of last year's entering class at UVA had a 4.5, median had a 4.40 and bottom 75th percentile had a 4.2. These are facts and true for VA students competing for UVA at the better FCPS schools. Now if you are URM, hooked or attending a school that is not rigorous or has few students applicants to UVA you may get lucky but for almost any unhooked non URM reading this you need GPA of 4.5, a 1510 SAT and a 35 ACT, top rigor, great LOCs and great ECs and be in top 6% of class to have a shot. |
| My 3.2, test optional kid ED’d to St Mary’s College of Maryland. He likes it a lot, it’s in state. I just hope he gets in. |
| My DD got good money at Iowa honors that brought it just under 30k |
Excellent choices! |
My DC is there and loves the school. Good luck. |
