It’s not anti-panhandler. It’s anti-this group of people who at the minimum play fake violins, but as a group exploit their children on hot days, on freezing days for money.

There is one who plays near the Target/Old Navy/Giant on the Pike. Last time I saw him he had a 10 year old boy with him. Sad for both of them.

Yeah basically every few months there is ANOTHER thread about some specific panhandler and we all go around in circles about how it’s really a “traffic safety issue” or “think about the children” etc. It’s gross. Leave people alone and go on with your day. Ignore them if you must but to post a rant in DCUM is shameful.

Busking is great, and while skill levels vary, music is beautiful. Fake playing an instrument is not. Doesn't really matter how much money you have.

We saw a family of beggars by Giant a few weeks ago, with the father holding a sign that said homeless and jobless... and my 11-year old son noticed the mom and tween kid beside him were each using what appeared to be smart phones. So, he asked me, how do they afford smart phones if they need money so bad... that doesn't add up.

There ARE good social services in OUR area - I'm not saying across the country but between DC/MD/VA we have amazing social services network that actually help those who want to help themselves - and yes I KNOW this to be true. It's deplorable what they are doing to their kids and it is organized crime.
