Helping DD face the loss of her sport

Any other success stories of teens who had to quit their beloved sport and ended up getting through it successfully?

Quit tennis as parents could not afford it anymore. It was fine….went to college… grad school….I actually still play for fun a lot without any pressure.

I would love to get an update from OP on how her daughter is doing. Someone mentioned coaching. I am sure a local rink would love to have her coach younger kids and run LTS programs. A lot of skaters enjoy it more than competing.

If she was a singles skater, can she switch to ice dancing?

You don’t need to know.

That's true it's a private matter, but it does affect whether she can transition to another sport like diving or cheer if it's something like a hip or ankle problem. If it's a heart or breathing issue, that's a different matter.

What about art or drama?

As someone mentioned above most people quit or retire.

Michael Phelps did an interesting documentary. Most Olympians face issues after the games even if they medal. You might get some suggestions on coping there.

Now she sees that the girls in her sport really have nothing else and talk about nothing else. Kinda boring from her perspective.

There were a lot of tears over the loss. It is a grieving process. For us, the key is keeping busy.

DD has a friend who transitioned from skating to Cheer. That worked well. Another was an international level skater but really hasn’t found another serious activity.

You can offer her comfort w/o putting down the girls who still participate.
