Yes! I used to take them to the hardware store about once a year but now that I live in the burbs I got the chefs choice machine.
It makes a huge difference. My knives aren’t very fancy and I cook because it’s obligatory, but having sharp knives makes a huge difference and the chefs choice thing is good enough for me. |
All that extra effort because you don’t know how to sharpen a knife. |
So most of the time your fancy knives are not sharp. Why even bother having them? A good knife sharpener is not cheap and I would rather have consistently sharp knives I replace every 10 years than expensive knives than are sharp one month out of 12. |
lol. Never seen someone so haughty about sharpening a knife |
Never seen anyone so helpless. |
Are you this judgmental about everything? I mean, this is pretty over-the-top about a knife! |
I have Japanese knives and a Japanese whetstone but have been sending my knives out because I haven’t gotten around to learning myself. Do you have a good tutorial that you can share? There’s something about the angle of sharpening that is different for Japanese knives. |
Indeed! |
| I have many never use them right so rotate knives and take them to be sharpened. |
Just watching the countless YouTube videos out there. Honestly, it's not rocket science. It takes a lot of patience. You will be bad at first, but with practice you can make razor sharp knives. You'll get good at feeling the burr and grinding it off. I don't about once a month. It is more therapeutic and like mediation more than anything. |
I have over 30 knives for different purposes. They remain sharp a lot longer than a month. |
| Yes, I sharpen knives about once a year and hone them regularly. I’ve been using the same set of knives for 25 years. |
You know what might actually help? Post a you-approved YouTube tutorial on knife sharpening, since you seem to think this is an essential skill. Try teaching people instead of mocking them while showing your whole ass. Christ, I pity your kid(s). |
| Yes, we own a knife sharpener, and I use it any time I feel my knives aren't doing their job well. More than once a month, but definitely not every week. Maybe I'm sharpening a knife (not all of them, just the one I want that isn't performing well) every 3 weeks? |
Don’t you have a core set of favorites? I have three I use a ton (chef, paring, and filet) and they need sharpened more than once a month. They are super knives but I cook a lot and use them daily, often several times a day. |
