it shows TJ is more recognized than Blair magnet. |
| DC got into UCLA but not Berkeley. I say it’s worth a shot to apply to both. DC was CS major. FCPS, non magnet, 4.0uw, 1540 SAT. |
Did he attend? Any thoughts on being an OOS student there? |
? what makes you think they are from Blair. For all you know, we could be from another state entirely. |
We did visit after his acceptance, but he did not attend. He liked UCLA a lot. DC is at another large OOS public and loves it. |
Hmm, for a kid who loved UCLA, we are wondering about alternatives. Kid is not interested in, say, UMich or UVA. Might add UWashington to the list. High stats, unlimited budget. Any suggestions? |
USC |
Thanks. That's on the list. |
|
As long as you are aware that OOS UC system students are full pay only.
If you are OK paying 80K per year in tuition, I don't see why $80 in application fee would trigger a discussion My high stats student did not apply to UC's for that reason It was UMD, Ivies, or bust

Why do they not like UMich or UVA? What major? Do they love CA? Try UCSD and Stanford. For my DC it came down to program being offered/value of program in their final decision. DC mainly considered these options when acceptances rolled in: Cornell, GA Tech, UT Austin, UCLA, and UMich. At UT Austin (Turing) and loves it. |
Thank you. Loves CA, wants in, or close to, a major city. Did not like Charlottesville and not interested in visiting Ann Arbor. UT is a good suggestion, thanks. |
The 5Cs— Harvey Mudd if interested in Engineering/Comp Sci, CMC if Econ/Business, Pomona all else |
You kid is not getting into UCSD either. |
That may be. Thanks for the insight, glad you know my kid so well. |
FWIW - GA Tech is in Atlanta (a major city). Ann Arbor is a lot like Charlottesville IMHO. |
