+1 It's scary how much of a mystery it is to the types she appeals to |
| I find it interesting how all the gurus seem to tout therapy and self-help as a result of their own obvious issues. The self-interested spin on their own shortcomings and lack of credentials beyond lived experience should be a red flag. |
I always thought Oprah’s initial appeal was because she was an empathetic person who asked the questions normal people were thinking. Because she got popular, people gave her credit for being more than a normal person. |
Um, yes. That’s basically what makes a good talk show host, right? Asking good questions and being likeable. Rosie and Ellen lost their platform when they were deemed not nice. Sally Jesse Raphael and Wendy Williams never achieved like ability. Drew Barrymore is well on her way, but my generation knows she’s not educated…just nice. Oprah isn’t brilliant, but she’s always exuded confidence and was good at interviewing people. But there are clips of her not being nice. Robin Williams had to step in when she was basically trying to out Nathan Lane when they promoted The Birdcage. And now she has made it obvious she lacks credibility imho. She’s just chasing dollars and trying to retain relevance and influence. Good for her for creating a brand, but being a successful business person should not equate to blind faith. Donald Trump is exhibit A, right? |
Whiteness has its great privilege. Didn’t say she was racist. |
OMG, Dr. Laura! Such a creep and a phony drifter. She was so high on herself. At one point she called herself a prophet, in the Biblical sense. These guru types get inflated by success and often implode. I think Dr. Laura came to hate her audience. I always thought Suze Orman hated her audience too. |
