At a table across from us, a waitress was dropping the bill at the table of an elderly couple when she knocked over a glass of ice water, causing it to partially spill onto the elderly woman. The waitress frantically ran over with towels and helped clean up the woman. After the initial commotion I went back to my food, but soon after I noticed the waitress return with their change! She/the restaurant still made this poor old couple—who were only eating small breakfast pastries and coffee—pay their bill, even after having water spilled on them! Had I known that, I would have picked up their tab. I’m sort of furious for them. I also sort of want to put the restaurant on blast for this whole interaction. Would you feel the same way, or am I being dramatic?

You are fscking ridiculous, OP. It's water.

But, more importantly, it didn't happen to you! Who do you think you are, the restaurant review service? You're going to "put the restaurant on blast" because a server spilled water and cleaned it up, and you don't think whatever comp they offered is fair?

And are you 100% certain they didn't comp something? Maybe it wasn't the whole bill, but 25% off? NO, you're not. You don't know the whole story because it's NOT YOUR STORY.

If the couple in question wants to complain, they have the agency to do so for themselves. Nobody needs your "service" in this regard, so butt out.
