Would this have upset you, too?

You’re way over the top. Yes this is completely normal drama llama.

It was a bit of water. Had it been a pot of hot coffee the answer might be different. I’m guessing you’re quite high maintenance

Maybe they comped hers but not the husband's.

I’m guessing you have never worked in service, OP. In many places, the “comped” meal comes out of the waitstaff’s already meager pay because the restaurant owner doesn’t want to take the hit for it. We all make mistakes at our jobs and it sounds like the waitress acted as quickly as possible to clean up and apologize. Putting the restaurant on blast for this is SUPER dramatic.

It was an accident. It was just water. She apologized. Not a big deal.

Thanks for asking here before putting the restaurant on blast. Think about why you are so upset - is there anything else going on in your life that is causing your outrage? It’s really no big deal. People make mistakes. I have had red wine spilled on me in a Michelin starred restaurant and I felt worse for the waiter than I did for myself. Getting water spilled on you by accident is not going to be the biggest challenge of that lady’s day or week.

Hi Op. Recently a waitress spilled chocolate sauce that was meant to be poured on our dessert at the table on me. She apologized, didn't offer to help clean, didn't offer to take the dessert off the bill and the owner was present, although I don't believe he saw the incident. We just decided not to go back.

Furious? No I don't get furious. Yes it would have been classy of the restaurant to have paid. And probably do more beyond that, maybe comp the next meal.

Absolutely don't put the restaurant on blast, you don't have the full story. They may have comped some of it. They may have comped all of it and she was bringing back change for a tip (because it was an accident and I'd still tip). Maybe the couple insisted they still pay.

I had a waitress drop a plate which knocked over a glass. I wound up with diet coke and food on my shirt and pants. It was an accident. They happen. They comped us part of the bill but we still tipped her on the full amount.

It's just water. It'll dry. The old woman doesn't have to go to the dry cleaners or throw out her clothes. It's warm out. No need to comp. No need to "put the restaurant on blast."

I don’t think I’ve had a meal comped on 20 years. At most they give you a free appetizer or dessert. I think they just really don’t do this anymore. Maybe because people would manufacture situations to try to get a free meal?

Sweet? The OP wants the server to lose her income. That's not sweet, that's insane and entitled. But my guess is that you are actually the OP writing this. Who uses the term waitress other than boomers, btw?

Your reaction is so strange that I’m sure you are a Ka**n.

You’re too dramatic. The old couple is not made of sugar, and will not melt. It was partial. The waitress rushed to clean it up. It was not red wine or hot coffee, something that wouldn’t dry in 10 minutes and leave no trace.

That's unfair to the restaurant, OP. Not sweet at all.

I would want to pay for my food even if a waitress spilled water on my clothes. Water is not harmful, and you said yourself that the waitress ran over with towels. If it was a below-zero day, yes, I would be a little upset at walking out of there in dire cold and damp clothes. But in early October, anywhere in the US? No. At most, I would tip less.

Don't unleash mob rule on this poor establishment for a minor incident that they themselves tried to rectify.

Dear goodness, OP, are you like this all the time, or is the work trip making you unhinged?

Check yourself before you embarrass yourself in front of coworkers. You're so out of line right now you're bound to say or do something insane before the end of the day.
