Would this have upset you, too?

I was at a restaurant having breakfast with coworkers before we head to a conference. At a table across from us, a waitress was dropping the bill at the table of an elderly couple when she knocked over a glass of ice water, causing it to partially spill onto the elderly woman. The waitress frantically ran over with towels and helped clean up the woman. After the initial commotion I went back to my food, but soon after I noticed the waitress return with their change! She/the restaurant still made this poor old couple—who were only eating small breakfast pastries and coffee—pay their bill, even after having water spilled on them! Had I known that, I would have picked up their tab. I’m sort of furious for them. I also sort of want to put the restaurant on blast for this whole interaction. Would you feel the same way, or am I being dramatic?

Yes, you’re being quite dramatic. You said it partially spilled and the waitress rushed to help clean it up immediately. They deserve a free meal because of a human accident?
Anonymous
I doubt the waitress had the authority to do that.

It's only water! It might be different if it was something that stained. It wouldn't bother me at all.

She would have the authority to tell her boss, “Hey, I just accidentally spilled water on this lady, can I comp her meal?”

Customer service is dead. I’m sure she got her tip, though!

It's never occurred to me to get a free meal because of accident. Is this something that happens to you? You sound entitled.

That's not how it works. Would have been very awkward if you had done that.
'Wanting to put the restaurant on blast'?
OP, you are too much.

Same here. It was water, it’ll dry. I would never dream that I would deserve a complimentary meal from it.

This is why restaurants have to jack up their prices. People always wanting things for free, trying to hack the system, etc

You sound terrible. This will only make YOU look bad.

Is this you, OP? Stop it now. You are weird and it will continue to show with every response you give.
What is wrong with you.
This can't be your first time. Any other examples from life?

Yes, they should comp her meal. Basic customer service. When you are unable to provide reasonable service (and being soaked with ice water isn't reasonable) then the service provider should provide some restitution and show good will.

Could be a stingy, bad owner more than a bad waitress. Who knows.

That's a very odd assumption, op.

My ds works at a diner type place and they are not allowed to comp meals for mistakes like these. It sounds like the waitress was very apologetic.

Why is this any of your business, OP?

You are not being a little dramatic. You are being WAY over the TOP dramatic, about something that didn't even happen to you.

You are sweet, op. These pps are hardened. Stay sweet!
