Ensuring second child is a boy

Agreed! Desperately hoping for a second girl.

Ok, how do you ensure a girl?

The odds are said to be greater in the female superior position (woman on top, and also upright). There is a scientific theory behind this.

1 for 1 on Shettles.

There's also a multiply photocopied Chinese astrological chart that we had, but I think Shettles is slightly more grounded in plausibility.

We don’t think we will need IVF but of course we don’t know if that is the case because we haven’t started trying yet. Are there any ways to tip the scale in favor of having a boy? I’ve heard about the Shettles method. What about sperm sorting?

Yes, I have used it successfully. Now I have a boy and a girl. And make DH drink coffee before trying,

What a rude, unnecessary, and mean thing to say! What is your problem??

DP - I think it's better to hope for infertility than to have a child you won't love because of their sex.

Do IVF or bend over the bed

Stick to the diet and supplements, timing, and the rear-entry position most of all.

Central to the Shettles method is his theory that XX and XY sperm cells swim at different rates. This is only a theory as far as I know. But, it guides his further theories on positions for conception.

In a nutshell, he posited that “shallow penetration coupled with the sperm deposited close to the cervical entrance favors female conception because the area is more acidic, which inhibits the weaker Y sperm, according to the hypothesis. To allow the Y sperm, which supposedly moves faster, to reach the egg first, use deeper penetration to deposit the sperm at the least acidic area near the uterus opening.”

Again it’s only a theory, but it would not hurt to try.

The cervical entrance IS the uterus opening. Near the cervix = deep penetration, not shallow penetration. Wtf. I’m not convinced this Shettles lad actually knew enough about female anatomy to comment.

As an option IVF with PGD where it is allowed for gender selection

Shuttles and Chinese calendar are just superstitions and they are not scientifically backed. The only way to ensure a boy is IVF with PGT testing. Go ahead and do shettles—you have a 50:50 chance of things going your way. It will probably just take you longer to get pregnant if you are timing around a specific point of the ovulation window and put even more restrictions around your sex life while TTC

You get what you get, and you don't get upset.

The only way to guarantee the desired gender is through IVF. So YES! I hope you have secondary infertility so you can do IVF, AND have insurance cover it otherwise most insurances won’t cover the cost of IVF which is 10-20k out of pocket

There are several supportive Facebook groups you can join regarding the subject that give lots of information about it.

As for supplements and other gender away methods like Shettles, they may slightly tip the scales at a statistical level but at an individual level it doesn’t matter much, it would be like a 1-2% higher probability.
