Maggie Smith :(

I saw her in The Prime of Ms. Jean Brodie. One of the finest performances by an actress I ever saw.

^ I just looked it up, she got the Academy award for best actress in 1969 for that role.

"I do not do anything merely!"

Who is the woman introducing her? Is that Lauren Bacall?

^^^Pretty sure that's Kathleen Turner.

Getting up and sitting down is hard, remembering things people tell you is hard, preparing food and eating and digesting is hard, showering is hard, getting up from the toilet is hard, staying awake is hard, sleeping all night is hard, etc. I think of death for an old person as a release. She had a long life, hopefully a nice one she was happy with, and now she's done. It'd be sad or tragic if she were like Natasha Richardson, who died in her prime, with young kids, suddenly and accidentally.

Old people are not worthless.

Really hope the 3rd Downton movie has her in it. Not sure if they've started filming yet. Ugh. I loved her so much.

Oops sorry— not on Netflix but called Nothing Like a Dame

I saw it at a film festival when it first came out. I had a huge grin on my face for the entire thing. Fabulous and fun ladies.

PP wasn't saying old people are worthless; they're saying that living until 89 and being healthy and active until the end is amazing and that death comes for us all eventually. Maggie Smith had possibly the best kind of life I can imagine. She did what she loved, never wanted for money, was loved and respected by millions. It doesn't get any better than that, unless maybe she could've been healthy and active until 99.
