Is there a small riot going on right now in City Center DC ???

Georgetown and City Center? It seems that these avaricious social justice warriors really wanted to stick it to The Man.

Speak for yourself. Looting, assault, attempted murder, and arson aren't exactly doing wonders for civilization. To you it's a bunch of gucci bags. To others it's a breakdown in the rules and norms and public order that human beings need for society to function safely for everyone. I hope "The Government" prosecutes these people hard.

+1

It hurts the businesses in those areas (including employees who work there and people who shop there). It negatively affects residents and tourists who want to enjoy the area. It creates a downward spiral of crime. Insurance premiums go up for all sorts of businesses. Police officers (who aren’t all evil despite some narratives) are putting their own safety in danger.

But it feels good to try to act morally superior by making this about consumerism so people will tout this garbage while patting themselves heartily on the back.

ok, MAGA.

Can you start by explain how this counts as a "protest?" What did Gucci do that they are protesting?

I don't understand why you guys are saying "protest," is there any evidence there was a protest involved? I get the sense it's just people who were reporting on it on Twitter and were confused?

There had been a vigil in the day/days before and the rioting happened immediately after the release of the entire body cam videos of Justin's death. The two events were likely related.

Obviously robbing the Gucci store in a large smash and grab won't bring Justin back. But then, these were his people that he was trying to help.

yeah I have a hard time feeling sorry for him … there are plenty of examples of police misconduct but he seems like he made a series of bad choices that led him to this point. likely drunk driving, passes out in a moving vehicle with an illegal gun on his lap …

+1. He was so drunk he drove into a McDonald’s with a gun in his lap. Then he rolled down his window and tried to grab the officer’s gun?
At some point I don’t know what we are asking officers to do. Just allow people to drive around drunk and crash into buildings? Ask people to surrender and if they don’t, just walk away or allow themselves to be shot? No wonder we have massive shortages in police hiring.

Nobody feels too badly about him, aside from his sister. These rioters don't care about him. Neither does anyone else.

I feel sorry for a kid like Tamir Rice who didn’t know better; and George Floyd who clearly suffered excessive force. Not this guy. But, this case is no doubt going to result some stupid policy that means the police just have to sit and wait for drunk dudes holding guns in cars to wake up and drive off. Then of course they cannot even chase them …

Oh stop it. I’m a dem and I think it’s embarrassing that calling out theft and property destruction is now apparently being equated with the far right.
