It is September, what are you reading?

I read Huck many years ago and had vague memories but I wanted to read it again to know where Percival was starting from and I was really glad I did although I skimmed through the last third of Huck because it was in many ways just a weird lark down the river with quirky adventures that didn't always even involve Jim. James was great.

I was just going to mention this one. I’m in the middle of it and enjoying it. It has some of the same vibes as Sandwich by Catherine Newman.

I want to like By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult, but I’m just not sure I’m going to finish it.

I'm reading Wanted: Toddler's Personal Assistant by Stephanie Kiser based on recommendations here and I'm loving it.

Anyone read SC justice K Brown Jackson's new book? Worth buying?

I'm trying to read The Electric Michelangelo by Sarah Hall. It's got some interesting details in it but in the first 30 or so pages she dwells so long on the same stuff, it gets a bit slow and repetitive. I'm neither carried along by the story nor the style of the writing (yet). I will persist.

Reading a nonfiction book by Antonia Fraser - one of my favorite nonfiction authors. It's called The Case of the Married Woman: Caroline Norton and her Fight for Women's Justice. It's about an upper class British woman in the 1800s and her fight to increase rights for women after her husband leaves her and takes the children. I think this sort of history is so interesting.

One of the best books I've ever read.

+1000 and Behind the Beautiful Forevers was so very powerful.

I’ve just finished The Covenant of Water. Masterful.

I just finished "The 100 year old man who climbed out a window and disappeared".
The book tells of the wild adventures the old man has after he escapes from his nursing home, and of the wild adventures he had in his life before he came to the nursing home.
I thought it was a lot of fun.
I downloaded it from my library website.

Long Island Compromise - really good!
I also loved Same As It Ever Was and James like others have.

Just finished “Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead.” So very good. Not a new release so easy to get from the library.

“Margot’s Got Money Problems,” is next.

Yesterday I started Prophet Song and could not put it down until I finished it. Amazing.

Next up: This is Happiness by Niall Williams.

I am about halfway through Tomorrow & Tomorrow & Tomorrow and think I will DNF. Unless there is some big payoff at the end that makes it worth it? I just find myself not really caring about the story and characters.

I enjoyed it more than I expected too.

That was me in August. I posted here and others advised me that there is no great payoff or anything more to glean from it. So I DNF. Absolutely did not get the hype around it.
