A lot of murders happen because of jackets.

Used Barbour is not an in-demand item in the ES set, unless OP's kid being targeted by a roving band of outdoorsy WASPs, but I appreciate your poor attempt at a flame war.

You have no idea. This stuff happens often and you're crazy if you think murders only happen for expensive items. . A person was mudered in Fort Washington in 2005 over a $350 North Face jacket.

I'm well aware of how it works. However, used Barbour is not a target. It is not a popular item in the same why that North Face, Nike, Helly Hansen, etc. are. Barbour is not recognizable to a vast majority of people.

Otoh if you get held up for a Barbour jacket it will be by someone holding a blunderbuss and you can just run away while they’re loading it with one of those long sticks.

But her mom's hydrangeas are nicer than my mom's! That said, my dad's vintage Saab 900 actually runs, unlike her dad's.

PP acting like he dropped some novel knowledge is hilarious. Yes, expensive items are targets for theft, but they need to be actually well-known.

I think your kid hates to be seen with the coat.
If money is really his concern, try to sell it with him on poshmark or ebay and you'll see nobody wants it or pays much for it. His best bet is wear it and pass it along or pass it along.
I don't know where you all live, but kids really don't care about clothes.
I also don't know what Barbour is, but sounded French and therefore somewhat expensive. I know the Scandinavian brands better, but no need to wear those in our climate.

I have never heard of it.

British brand known for it's waxed cotton jackets, which is what this is.

The whole point of the thread is that Barbour is "costly" for the OP's family, and presumably where they live. It's lined with that liner to mimic Burberry.

LOL! Maybe if OP lives out in Loudon County. OP's kid will be 🔥 in horse country!

These are $150-$200 jackets. They're not high fashion. People spend 1/3 of that on a water bottle, OP.

Op here. Thank you all. It’s an adult jacket (our son is tall for his age and in Adult male size medium already). For us, it is costly compared to how much we would spend on a jacket. The jacket is the Bedale which is $398 at JCrew https://www.jcrew.com/p/mens/categories/clothing/coats-and-jackets/chore-and-utility-jacket/barbourreg-bedale-wax-jacket/BL135

For us, this is the equivalent “nice” of a jacket as a Canada Goose $1k jacket may be for someone wealthier or whichever brand is deemed expensive . It is in like new condition and an absolutely beautiful coat. I believe for me as shown in the Lost and Found thread that a parent would snatch it up if found , not so much a child robbing a child.

DH believes expensive items belong at home not at school in general but for a jacket, I was curious if that is a general rule of thumb? Keep nicer clothing items home or wear them as they are meant to be worn?
Anonymous
Since my kid would hate that jacket, i wouldn't make them wear it. But I certainly wouldn't buy another one if we had that one laying around. Your kid will outgrow it soon enough so might as well use it.
