I think I'm just frustrated because I have so many balls in the air and daily obligations (as most of us parents do) and it felt like my friend was overstepping.

Thank you all!

How was she overstepping? She asked and SHE ASKED YOU! It seems that you are upset that she only offered $10/hr.
I can't help but wonder if she had offered $20/hr for your time and gas, you would be perfectly fine. If your friend visits DCUM, you needn't worry because she will know what a jerk you are and retreat from you forever.

DP. It's not worth $20 either.

Friend is being cheap at OPs expense. Just say no and don’t worry about it.

Calm down, just say it won’t work. Geez.

Her friend is a cheapskate. Did she even think about the mother’s time ?

She probably thought her friend was a grown up that knows how to use her words. I can see someone thinking this would be a cool way for her kid to make some money.

Christ you people are weird.

Well… yeah. She offered DD $10/visit which is low but I guess fine since DD is 9. I’m a professional working parent with three kids in elementary school. I’m not a pet sitter, and asking me to facilitate this for DD seems like an overstep.

To be clear, if she was in the hospital or her flight got delayed or something, I’d do it in a heartbeat and of course not expect payment. But I’m not a pet sitter.

You are an entitled mule's derriere.

I’d be irritated too, OP, because it seems clear your friend didn’t think through how this would affect YOU. And we expect our friends to do that.

Asking isn’t overstepping. Just say no.

Your focus on the commute and your impulse to ask for more is petty and misguided. The lesson here for your DD and the sense of accomplishment she will have is worth the inconvenience to you.

+1.

I agree BUT OP is too self important to make sacrifices for her child unless it would benefit OP. When one has OP's professional position then those deemed acceptable enough to breath her rarified air should take note and give her the all the deference due her lofty professional position. I suspect that the only people who love OP are those who don't know her.

Just say can’t. No excuses.
