Any other Lafayette parents disappointed by the lack of class lists?

The social ones know already, and kids whose parents are not social with other families don’t get to find out until Friday, assuming their parents can take off work at 2:30pm to bring them to the meet and greet.

That’s another thing that’s annoying -having a meet and greet during work/camp hours.

Sounds like you are a parent new to public school. Most everything at school happens during school hours. Tough adjustment from daycare, but best to prepare yourself now.

DC teachers don't work after contract hours (nor should they)

That doesn’t mean it’s not problematic. Just because something is a certain way doesn’t mean it’s the right way. I think we should aim for a school that is as inclusive as possible. It won’t always happen, but we can still try to do better and hear each other on issues as they come up.

Let me guess......only child?

The school I work at released class lists earlier this week and already has more requests for changes than can be counted on my hands. Lafayette is waiting because they don't want the "feedback" and I don't blame them.

Yeah I’m surprised too! Our DCPS has never distributed class lists. We get a teacher and room assignment about a week before school. You find out who is in the class on day one.

At least one DCPS posted lists on the entrance to the building.

I have worked at 3 DCPS schools and my children attend another - we have never gotten a full class list, just an email with the teacher. And meet and greets have always been during the school day. I am not sure how Lafayette ran these things in the past, but it is pretty standard across the board to do it this way.

Yes this has been my experience as a parent at another DCPS.

Wrong. I am a current Lafayette parent and nothing happened during the work day previously except for parent teacher conferences.

My leave balance says otherwise.

“The whole system”?? You are not entitled to a full class list, just your own class assignment. Why do you need a class list before the start of the school year?

And are the teachers at all these after school things? I’d be concerned that either teachers aren’t getting paid for extra work or the school is putting too much money into their admin premium fund and could be funding another staff position.

I appreciate your awareness of teachers hours. Parents on this thread and others should be aware of how teachers are currently working on a lapsed contract bc mayor bowser refuses to come to the table. This recent message from the union makes me think a work stoppage could be possible

Wanting the same opportunities as the social families and SAHM and work-from-home families is also valid. Wanting to know all of this before sending my kid into an unknown situation on Monday is also valid.

No, it's not valid. This is a public school with almost 900 kids, and you should not be hogging time to deal with your anxiety and helicoptering little Johnny. What are you doing to do when they are in college, call Professors? Get a grip.
