Any other Lafayette parents disappointed by the lack of class lists?

just text your kids friends moms to see if they are in the same class. That's all you want to know anyway.

Doesn’t trust go both ways? What other assumptions do you have about the school?

We’ve always had the class lists and now that we have a new principal, that’s changed. It would be one thing if she decided to make the change after seeing that it was problematic but that’s not what happened. Annoying.

Parents started a massive Google doc within hours of the teacher assignment emails being sent out. Reach out to some of your friends or neighbors and see if one of them has the link. I won't post it on here for obvious reasons. It's pretty exhaustive at this point, by my estimation it's probably 80% or more completed.

This whole system basically puts at a disadvantage less social kids/families. The social ones know already, and kids whose parents are not social with other families don’t get to find out until Friday, assuming their parents can take off work at 2:30pm to bring them to the meet and greet.

That’s another thing that’s annoying -having a meet and greet during work/camp hours.

Yep.

Y’all need to chill and let the principal do her thing. Some things are going to be different and that’s ok. All this talk of the need to provide “feedback” on the class lists suggests to me she made the right call. And hey maybe the teachers don’t want to stay past their contract hours on their first week back. And that’s valid too, considering your kid will be fine meeting them on Monday if you have work/camp obligations. Others can weigh in but it seems the principal is aligning more to what other DCPS schools do.

And what are we supposed to do while the principal is "doing her thing?" Hit the Bethesda Lululemon or go get a blowout? Once we quit working at the firm to tiger mom our kids, we need something to do with all our time!

Wanting to know if my kid’s class has 21 or 26 students is valid. Wanting to know if difficult kids from previous years are in my kid’s class again is valid. Wanting the same opportunities as the social families and SAHM and work-from-home families is also valid. Wanting to know all of this before sending my kid into an unknown situation on Monday is also valid.

And you will. Friday.

Ok. Stay mad then. We’ve had like two months notice of the meet and greet and I’m sure the former principal would have entertained your concerns about clashes with other kids when she made the lists. But I think you want to just complain on here (and further perpetuate the Lafayette parent stereotype). I’m looking forward to the new principal. I hope all your emails don’t scare her away.

If the new principal scares this easily she’s in the wrong line of work.

Yeah, it's annoying but so is every other school event during work hours. I am not a SAH or WAH parent, so I get it, but it's just how it is.

FYI, I have no idea if this is the case at Lafayette or not, but student privacy has become such a hot button issue for schools that it doesn't surprise me that a school would only tell you your kids particular teacher and not publicize the whole class list. FWIW.
