Nothing can stop MVA parents' tireless efforts to take funding from MCPS schools! Except for a mild cold, that is.

Oh my... there you go again. You realize some of these families are leaving so that takes money away. You realze some of the kids going back need specialized placements costing upward of $100K a year, so that takes away money. You realize some of these kids need 1-1 para's, so that takes away money. Lots of things take away money from in person schools but how it was working was the home schools were getting payment for kids not attenting their school. How is that ok?

The MVA isn't about covid. You are cold and heartless if you don't listen to the testimonies of why. It has very little impact on the MCPS budget.

Despite it not making any sense, all three people providing testimony today in support of MVA are motivated by Covid.

One was due to waiting for a transplant. There are many in the MVA and all have a variety of reasons but regardless they should get the choice and it doesn't matter why. Most people don't want to make their private business public.

They claim they're worried about their son getting covid. Nevermind all the other transplant recipients that continued school/jobs/activities until their health deteriorated to a point where they couldn't (and you're not likely to find yourself at the top of the list until that happens anyway).

The reasons do matter when you're expecting others to pay for it. Particularly when the educational outcomes are worse than in-person.

Again, why do you care the reason? The educational outcomes are not worse if you look at the current data from last year. You expect us to pay for your child's in person education, which is far more costly when you include buildings, extra staffing, bussing, etc. So, maybe we should stop in person. Your logic is flawed and your hatred for the MVA, which you have no experience with, is really bizzare. Stay blessed as one day you may not be and your child may need something like the MVA.

And, now that the MVA is closed and kids are going to IIS or homeschooled, don't you thnk those outcomes will be even worse. IIS is a few hours a week of tutoring and not a real education. Congrat's on hurting kids.

Could you provide a link to the newly released performance/achievement data from last year that you're referring to? Would be great to see the progress that the program made over the first few years.

It’s been shown by some families. Mcps refuses to provide data. Why do you care?

Not sure what you mean by "it's been shown by some families". Shown to who? Why do just "some families" have the new data and not all? And if MCPS refuses to provide the data, where did the data come from?

It doesn't matter where the data came from. There is some room for improvement but its a new school and takes in a lot of students with challenges but compared to race/income equal schools it overall preformed well. MCPS and the BOE refuse to release data. Its also a brand new school/program so it should get some time to build up and take the special needs into consideration.

Its gone, the BOE is clear its not coming back so its a mute point. Its been posted on some social media but families and others.

So which is it? The new data completely contradicts the years of older data that said that the program did a poor job educating kids, particularly the youngest and poorest kids, or the data doesn’t matter at all because it’s a new program so we should give it a bunch of years before we measure achievement?

And by “the new data” that contradicts the public MCPS report, what you were referring to was some social media posts?

The only data released was the first year and that's not fair to judge it off the first year when they were understaffed and brand new. They never officially released last years's data despite being asked to many times. Familes got some data and compared it to equal schools. But, they didn't take into account some of the special needs and circumstances like kids being hospitalized for weeks at a time.

Got it. So this new “data” that contradicts the MCPS report showing that the program did a poor job educating kids is some twitter posts of random families expressing their opinion on how to interpret some info they were able to get somehow. Slam dunk case for the dramatic improvement of the program based on that!

They have deliberately withheld the data. You must be so proud of yourself for shutting down the school and hiding the data due to your personal bias not caring about the students you hurt. When kids die who were safe in the mva, we can have you to blame.

Are MVA families who had their kid in mva because of non-medical reasons going back to your school zoned for your neighborhood or enrolling kid in another type of school, doing another type of virtual program if it exists, or homeschooling?

Some will homeschool, but the vast majority will simply return to their neighborhood school.

No, they couldn't. Some are going back in person, some are homeschooling, some other virtual private pay programs and some aren't sure as they are waiting for IIS approval.

They don't have to. MCPS will lose a good number of these students. A good number are not returning.

Unlikely. The vast majority will return.
