No. College kids who enjoy partying and drinking don’t care what their supposed limit is. There will be the fraternity parties where no student is saying “no thanks, I’ve reached my limit, something my dad taught me”. And anyone thinking their “athlete” son is so health conscious that they don’t drink doesn’t know anything. Biggest drinkers on campus are students who play hockey, football, lacrosse, basketball, baseball. The stereotypes are not far off.

I disagree with this. I faked drinking a lot more than I did because I didn’t want to lose control. I saw plenty of people do this and it was a lesson for sure. I nursed many drinks and was very in tune to keep any drink covered by my wrist.

So I wouldn’t say I’ve reached my limit to people but I faked enough while staying in full control and observant.

The only time I would drink hard was when I was with close friends at a house.

Fake drinking like you’re 14 years old. Yeah that isn’t a thing in college. Don’t drink if you don’t want to drink.

The most drinking happens in fraternities and about 35% of college students have binged drank.

Getting black out drunk is not uncommon. They did a study at Duke and found 50% of students had at least one black out drunk incident in the past year. Again fraternities have the highest rates of binge drinking and black out incidents.

These are facts and they do differ between schools but to assume your child will be the non drinker is hopeful thinking.

The father wanted his 17 yo to get drunk at home with him his senior year of high school. The father said he wanted him to feel the sensation for the first time in the safety of his home. So the father bought a bunch hard seltzers and the son drank four of them and then the father had him play video games so the son could experience how impaired he was.

At first I thought this was bonkers, but maybe he’s on to something.

No no no no no.

What about experimenting with drugs at home under parental supervision? Would you do the same? I doubt it. Drugs is a bigger issue than alcohol.

Talk with your kids about decision making, being safe and using good judgement.

They took it slowly, and she asked them to identify how they were feeling. I think they stopped when the kids started feeling buzzed. She said they went into college knowing what their limits are in the number of drinks they can handle, and what it feels like to be on the verge of getting drunk.

So weird. Sitting and drinking with your mom has zero to do with the actual way people drink. Also stopping when they felt “buzzed” isn’t knowing their limits. The message of that lesson would seem to be “drinking with my mom is weird.”

I'm laughing thinking about the mom repeatedly saying, "Now, identify how you're feeling." The kids were probably so annoyed!

No I was in college in the mid 90's when I did this and I know many college girls now that only pre-game to get tipsy and never take a drink at a frat party. And then go home and smoke with friends. Everyone just need to know about the one girl who was roofied and raped. Many girls are becoming smarter. I didn't say all. But a lot.
