lol were you unsure which grade your child was going into? šŸ˜‚

Well, he's new, and they made a point of reaching out and setting up a meeting in advance of the start of school. But thanks for the lol! Seems like a great community...

It is a great community! Especially if you can laugh at some of its quirks. But I would also feel bad if teachers were expected to send out emails before their first day back.

Yes, we have actually had only really nice interactions with the families we've met. I know this website brings out the snark!

Bancroft got theirs in the mail at the end of July.

JR schedules are up in Aspen

DC and friends (Banneker) have already traded schedules and are disappointed to find that they do not have any classes together.

We were supposed to be emailed the lists today, along with them posting the lists in the school window. No email so far, if there's nothing by c/o/b I guess I'll swing by the school to look. Takoma ES.

Curious if charters follow a similar schedule (this is our first child's first year in PK, so we have no basis of comparison)... school at our language immersion charter starts next Monday - less than a week from this moment - and we've gotten no guidance on classroom/teacher assignment, how to label or send that giant supply list on the first day, what to expect in terms of curriculum (like: how much of the day is in the second language? will there be any take-home assignments?), etc. Is that normal, or within the range of normal?

Some of that (like instruction, homework) I'd expect at Back to School Night not necessarily before first day; some charters release the class assignments in advance, others don't; if you're missing logistical information, you can reach out to the school to make sure you aren't missing any emails they are sending out. As for the big pile of supplies, feel free to keep those home the first day and ask the teacher how he or she would like to manage. You can also look around on the webpage to see if there is a parent association you can connect with for some veteran parent advice that's more specific to your school. good luck!

I would say it's within the range of normal. But if you share which charter you are going to, you're likely to find other parents here that can give you more information.

Our school promised lists by today (after previously promising them by two prior dates) and... nothing. Not even communication that they're going to be delayed again. Super unimpressive.

… And now it’s Thursday with no apology or explanation. Fourth deadline announced by the principal.

At this point check your child’s Aspen account. The rollover for the new year happened so you hopefully can see it. It’s weird the principal hasn’t sent it out because they definitely have schedules by now.

The principal actually acknowledges that people are looking in Aspen in her messages, but says that things may be changed so you can’t count on whatever it shows. Last year they completely messed up the assignments in Aspen and they were virtually all wrong for two grades (somehow forgot to assign classes for a grade and so they were auto-assigned by Aspen by student ID number or something crazy along those lines), so everyone is hesitant to believe this year. Apparently teachers don’t have their class lists either.
