Coco Gauff is an insufferable brat

Yet nobody thought it was “okay” when Serena called out bad calls.

Plus everyone should call out bad calls.

And now that it's all over Serena is beloved because she won. Nobody cares about her antics now. Coco needs to win to get the same treatment because right now she's an underachieving whiner

No, he was a considered a jerk. He was disliked.

That’s why he still works in the industry as a commentator.

He works in the industry as a commentator because he won and was extremely successful. As a player he was a hot headed jerk but he won. Serena had a temper but she won.

Tennis is such a mental game. One bad call can change the momentum of a match.

That said, the ability to reset is so important. Unfortunately, Coco was not able to do that today.

Calling her a brat is very harsh, however. Try walking in her shoes and see how you do! (This reminds me of the great response Danielle Collins had to someone who booed her)

Interesting that the two female athletes singled out for criticism at the top of this forum are black. Par for the course around here but still.

Yes, elite tennis players and golfers are often isolated--I grew up around some of them (until they went off to IMG academy or something or became homeschooled). A lot of them also come off as very cold/rehearsed in everything they say and do for this reason, because they are coached in everything and have never been allowed to be themselves.

I want to beauty them

Maybe because they are well represented in sports. Its not exactly a fluke.

All of this. The pressure on these athletes is immense. I can’t imagine. Coco is learning and growing right before our eyes.

Her peers elected her flag bearer for a reason. My guess is that she treats others well and is very supportive of her fellow athletes.

Her behavior today was not Olympics worthy, a sore loser and a whiner. She created this drama because she was losing in straight sets, then she went on to insinuate that this always happens to her and Serena due to the color of their skin.

Color me shocked.

That said, I agree with PP that there are other Olympic athletes who were more deserving of the flagbearer honor.

Isn’t the flag bearer chosen by the other Olympic athletes?

She building her brand, pure and simple.

Whinny loser? Mentally weak?

What a brand! I am a weak, pathetic, whiny loser who blames all losses on racism. Great way to go.

wtf.

Long, long time tennis fan here. That call is so outrageous and such a basic unacceptable error by that ref that they should be removed permanently. That was not a small error.
