Round 2 of braces-$7200 complex, is this a reasonable price or high?

Do the dentist office employees celebrate with high fives and cheering when you leave the office ?

We got one estimate for $7200 and two estimates for $5000. Went with one of the $5000 estimates and have been very happy so far. I can't remember the exact differences in the work. DD only needs one phase, didn't start until 6th, and probably won't have them off until midway through 7th.

Meanwhile younger DD was provided the best estimate by the place that wanted to overcharge for older DD - plan involved a removable expander for phase 1 instead of an attached one - and we were super happy with that too. Friends have had similar experiences where each kid ended up with a different orthodontist.

So shop around.

Her teeth look great, despite the ortho saying she had a very complex case and a crossbite. Our dentist doesn’t see it- she has a beautiful smile, if slightly imperfect. On one side, a slightly turned tooth, but it is barely noticeable.

Younger daughter is turning 12 and also had spacer for phase 1. Ortho says her case is less complex. Last time we brought her in, they said wait. But she does have an overbite and more obviously looks like she needs braces. I’d rather get them done before high school. But maybe wait?

Most kids we know had braces in middle school but there are still tons who have them in HS>

Most kids are done by about 7th grade now. It's very very rare to see a high school kid with braces IMO. My second child did phase 1 in 4th grade and my first only needed phase 2 and got them off in 7th grade.

One of my kids is going into 10th and I can think of several of his friends who still have braces or invisaligns. All boys though.

My 16yo ds got braces last month, which he'll have for 18-24 months.

Our son had severe overjet, overbite and our ortho was able to correct in 18 months of invisalign (with buttons and elastics during the earlier aggressive stage). Now he wears a night only retainer.

The entire cost was $7500 (including visits, all stages of aligners which you change every 2 weeks, and the final night-only retainer he now uses). I thought it was worth it.

I believe metal braces would have been cheaper than invisalign.

My 15 year old just got Invisalign. He plays a sport where he can get elbowed in the face or have a ball hit his mouth so we went with Invisalign so he can take it off for games and practices.
