Round 2 of braces-$7200 complex, is this a reasonable price or high?

Orthos scamming you

Many things are best handled during the growing phase.

Unless there is a risk of teeth being damaged if you want (cross bite for example), the closer kids are to having a fully grown face and jaw, the less movement you will need to do mechanically. Better to get the full space then see what needs moving. Often times teeth will align more as their face and jaw grows

What’s a good age for braces? My first daughter, now 15, had spacers for phase 1, but never went back for phase 2. Her teeth look great, despite the ortho saying she had a very complex case and a crossbite. Our dentist doesn’t see it- she has a beautiful smile, if slightly imperfect. On one side, a slightly turned tooth, but it is barely noticeable.

Younger daughter is turning 12 and also had spacer for phase 1. Ortho says her case is less complex. Last time we brought her in, they said wait. But she does have an overbite and more obviously looks like she needs braces. I’d rather get them done before high school. But maybe wait?

My kid's front upper tooth came in exactly perpendicular to this other teeth, like an open front door. You'd let a 7 year old have a completely messed up bike plus be mocked mercilessly for 6 years until puberty?

+1
We did too. We really liked the ortho and the location was very convenient. You need to be conscious of the fact that you'll have to go there a lot so for us it was worth it to save time driving which meant less time out of school for DC and out of work for me.
You can get cheaper if you do want to look around. Some of our neighbors who wanted to pay less went further away and got quotes of closer to 5-6.

I think they wait until all your teeth are in

Get both of your kids braces. Slightly imperfect smile and a slightly turned tooth will just get worse over time. And if there are structural issues that goes double.

This is part of launching your kid into life.

Now, go to a few orthodontist and ask them.

This seems really, really high.

Most kids are done by about 7th grade now. It's very very rare to see a high school kid with braces IMO. My second child did phase 1 in 4th grade and my first only needed phase 2 and got them off in 7th grade.

My kid is going into 7th grade and got braces last year. We consulted with 4 orthodontists over the course of a couple years. The one we chose wanted to wait longer, but she had a severe overbite/buck teeth, and had already slightly chipped a front tooth because it stuck out so far. They say she'll have them on a couple years so sounds like they'll come off right before high school. Cost varied from $6k-$10k(ish) among the various orthodontists.

One of my kids is going into 10th and I can think of several of his friends who still have braces or invisaligns. All boys though.

I think that will be my son. Some kids have complex issues and need braces palate expanders starting at a young age. My dentist said that my son may need a quick round to straighten but to wait until all of his permanent teeth are in, for him that will be sometime in 7th or 8th grade. I never had braces which surprises people. I have one tooth that is slightly crooked but less so than many people I know who did wear braces (and lost their retainers)

My daughter only needed fairly simple straightening. We started once all her adult teeth were in which was right before she turned 12 (mid-6th grade). She will have them for 12-15 months. We're paying around $6500 (insurance covers some). I got a cheaper quote from another dr but it was farther from our house and would have been more of a pain to get to.
