What are your safeties / targets if you have Ivy level stats?

Ha yes, my CS major DC had higher stats than that and was rejected, including Cal, Stanford, UCLA, and even GA Tech.

How can these stats be higher?

WashU, Tufts, Northeastern and Michigan are NOT targets or Safeties for anyone, even "ivy qualified"
Anything with less than 20% acceptance rate is a Reach for everyone

Not true. Three of those are targets and one is a safety for a non-big 3 but well known private school in Virginia, for a kid at the top of the class rank-wise with the stats OP listed, as long as the kid can write well and has great recs / not an a$$hole

Yes - took BC in 10th grade but doesn’t want a purely tech school like mit, Caltech , Cmu for college

CMU and Caltech are not purely tech schools.

Precalculus in 9th, Calculus in 10th is very common among students attending ivies, or at least in engineering, math, physics majors.

[quote=Anonymous][quote=Anonymous]You need to plan ED and ED2 schools.
Those stats should easily get into Tufts as a high target ED and BC level as a safety RD but you might get yield protected with those scores at BC and a few schools ranked lower in the RD round.

You may not need it but some of these could be safeties.
Case
Tulane
Lafayette
BU
BC
GW

FYI-none of those schools are "Safeties" for any one with any stats! But they are targets for the OP kid

___
ALL of those schools were listed as safeties for my kid, by the Dean of counseling of their private k-12. Targets were schools such as Notre Dame and WashU. Kid got into more than half the targets and all safeties, and multiple ivy/+ in RD. Is at an ivy.
Other posters on DCUM for 2024 have listed similar results for unhooked.

This. Ensure you include some public schools, which on average are less likely to yield protect.

This was my kid. Had Wes, Vassar and UMD as targets, but did get in to several Ivies/T10. Blair grad that wanted balance of math/arts.

It sounds like op’s kid is at a public school, where those stats might put them anywhere from top 5 in class to top 10 percent of class or higher, First step is figuring that out, op.

Excellent point. The results will vary greatly whether this is a top-few kid or barely top10%

School doesn’t rank , but guidance counselor did say they were highest in class and nominated for some named scholarships as a result
